Hello
I'm a plebe at the naval academy and I was wondering what to plebes do during the 2/c parents weekend.
Thanks

You’ll be doing your usual plebe things. You might be standing watch if you are in the duty section, working on schoolwork, going out on town liberty.

2/c Parents Weekend is for the parents and family of the Class of 2021, nothing to do with you, except the Hall might be blessedly free of 2/c.

Something to look forward to in 2 years!

There is a parade on Friday and a game on Saturday that you will be attending with the rest of the Brigade. After the game you can hit the New Jersey Parent Club tailgate. Free home cooked food for all the mids. At the next tailgate the PAPC serves up desserts.

The NJPC is at every home game. Grab some of your squad and head over. You will see it on the March in. Be on your right as you enter the stadium grounds.

Wish you were already a 2/C. :D

Seriously, it doesn't directly affect you. As with any "celebratory" fall WE at USNA, you can expect crowds in the MidStore, crowds at Dahlgren, a formal parade, a football game and related activities, lots of parents/friends roaming the Yard, LOTS more people at noon meal formation, etc.

Your best bet is to use the time that the 2/C are "preoccupied" to focus on your studies, squaring away your room, participating in ECAs if you have time, and enjoying the game including (as others have noted above) the opportunity to tailgate. And reflect on the fact that, if you still want to serve and keep your nose clean, you WILL be standing in the shoes of those 2/C in 24 short months.

^ This .... Weekends are a time to relax, just a little. But be careful , as there will be 2/c without parents attending, and 1/c on Duty Section, who take it upon themselves to ensure that standards are enforced and Plebe Year lasts a year ! :)

I believe 2/c may be able to bring family up on deck. If you find yourself being introduced by one of your former detailers as “one of my plebes,” be totally squared away.

On Friday, many of the 2/c will bring parents to lunch in King Hall. For a lot of them, it will be their first time eating there, because their mids wanted to skip King Hall and get the heck outta Dodge 2 years back on PPW. As a plebe, it is your job to entertain them with "typical" plebe behavior and shenanigans. However, if you're planning to bust any peanut butter jars on your head, use caution. I'm pretty sure those 2/C's will make you pay dearly if they or their parents end up wearing any.

Just out of curiousity...when did "2/C Weekend" become a thing ? I seem to recall a Parent's Weekend 1/c year.

It changed awhile ago. Maybe 10 years ago? The statement was that two trips for many families with commissioning on the back end was taxing on the costs. So it changed to 2/C parents weekend.

A couple of years ago for DD's 2/C weekend we were allowed up on deck, so I assume that is still the case.

We witnessed the peanut butter thing. As @2020Vision stated, 2/C weekend was our first time in King Hall since DD was one of the Plebes who wanted out of Dodge on PPW. If you missed it PPW I definitely recommend eating in King Hall while you are there for 2/C weekend. Can't say I recommend eating there based on the cuisine, but definitely something to experience at least once.

For us, 2/C weekend was a lot different than PPW. We and DD were new to everything back then and DD was ready to be off the Yard as soon as possible. 2/C year she wanted us to attend her classes and couldn't wait to show us around as the big shot 2/C.

You will be pulling up the slack left by the 2/C on liberty... Watch duty.

Or carrying them back and putting them in their racks, when they are unable to do so themselves. My DS got to do that when he was a Plebe. He was so proud. ;)

> Not really, Plebes and 2/C stand different watches, unless things have changed ALOT !

> That's not supposed to happen anymore ! (Back in the day....it was not uncommon for Plebes and Upperclass to provide mutual support when walking back from the Stadium after a post game tailgate ;)).

In addition to the reason Old Navy BGO provided -- which is 100% correct, BTW -- USNA also thought it would be nice for the parents to "celebrate" the 2 for 7 commitment their children have just made.

The "downside" is that it was nice for parents to see their kids in charge of the brigade during the old 1/C PW. By Commissioning Week, the 2/c have taken over. Thus, while there are no formal events for 1/C parents until May, if you are a 1/C parent and your kid has a leadership position in a company or above company, I recommend visiting for a WE if you can afford to do so personally and financially. Attend a parade and a home football game. Go to noon meal formation. Eat in King Hall (if permitted). Attend chapel services, if you're so inclined.

I realize you won't be able to visit Mother B or attend classes, but it's still an opportunity to see your kid in a whole new light. Not a replacement for 2/C PW, but an addition for those who can do it.

You'll be doing your regular plebe duties. You'll meet some of your company 2/c's parents at lunch, but other than that, life is pretty much the same

I was a drag on my CVW while the 2/c parents were visiting. King Hall was insanely busy and I saw a mom do the "Beat Army!" peanut butter thing. Great experience!
