2 Week Fleet Standard ROM

DH just got home from men’s hoops game. A couple of starters were out with COVID, but Navy men are Patriot League champs at end of regular season, seeded #1 for the tourney.

There is definitely a spike, do not know magnitude.

My DS said iso is full (it’s near his company space). Gym is closed. PFT canceled. Some varsity teams may have been moved off the yard in order to continue to compete. My DS is a pretty even-keel guy who doesn’t ***** much but even he said things are pretty miserable. Sure hope they get it under control. No doubt they will.

Dang. Sorry to hear about this. I hope this is the last of these kinds of things and the Brigade can be vaccinated soon.

Doubt they'll get vaccinated anytime soon. They are pretty much the last priority in the DoD to get vaccinated. All young healthy people not about to deploy anytime soon. We still have ships deploying without the crews being vaccinated, so I don't see it coming anytime soon.

From the Call, the supe said we should be getting them before graduation at the latest as we need them for summer trainings

@turtle7584 enjoyed the musical interlude on IG.

I know one mom who son is DOR’ing. Already all set to do so. Another still thinking about it. Have you seen/heard much about this going on? Also saw one on IG on Saturday. Is there a concern there could be a loss of good people from this?

My own says ‘Leadership is doing what they can to mitigate. It’s not their fault’. He is also happy about being able to sleep in now. Wake up 5 min’s before class (lemons and lemon aid!!). MAYBE not wear pants 🤨😂. Not sure if he was serious about that? But the point is, he is fine.

Y’all are rockstars...keep on hanging in there!! At least this will change things up a bit for the dark ages.

This is the viruses 🦠 fault. Y’all are doing amazing, in a dorm confined space of 4K plus.

USNA should just let all the mids hang out together next couple of weeks and get this behind them. Trying to keep it out is a losing battle and is making life miserable for the mids. This virus just doesn't affect these college kids.

Hopefully that's true, and he can say that all he wants, but until it actually happens I wouldn't trust it too much. Like I said, they are pretty much the last priority right now. Them going on summer training isn't priority over vaccinating deploying units. Also my base has been saying we were going to be getting the vaccine any day now for about 1.5 months now and we still don't have anything scheduled. The ones we were supposedly going to get keep getting reprioritized to other units.

I know there is a lot of cynicism amongst us plebes but I believe we all aware that this is temporary. At least for me, Herndon, summer trainings, and new leadership has given me a lot to look forward to and that's what's keeping me going through the daily life. I personally don't know anyone DORing but there is a wide consensus among all classes, that if one were to DOR, they would be more than understanding. Overall, there is a lot of distrust in the current leadership and how they have handled things. But thank you for the motivation!

Actually this isnt quite true. The last line. They are finding this go around to have more illness. Mids ARE sick. There is suspicion this may be one of the variants, and it’s affecting them differently. Parents are sharing that their kids are having symptoms more than they seemed to before.

Here is the public release straight from USNA:

I hear it from my Youngster - it’s tough. You will all get through this and you will be stronger for it. Tests of character come in all guises. For parents, this is the time to listen and be encouraging but to remind our mids that they have what it takes and be the men and women we raised them to be. All of us our proud of you.

My conversation with my son:

Him: Covid numbers are higher but we are locked down.

Me: wow

Him: I can’t come home

Me: LOL

Maybe my son doesn’t tell me the truth ... but he seems fine.

Clarification: we are not at 20% positive or contact traced. I believe OP misunderstood the statistics that were given.

Regardless, the numbers have not been released outside of USNA as far as I am aware. This would lead me to believe we shouldn’t be talking specific numbers publicly.

The only team that will be competing over the next two weeks is Mens Basketball. All of the other teams are on ROM. Apparently MBB was isolated enough to have missed this.

From USNA statement, linked prior..
  • Suspension of all sports practices and events, with the sole exception being varsity women’s and men’s basketball.
    • The men’s basketball team will be allowed to participate in postseason play since the team has been isolated from the rest of the Brigade since last week.
    • The women’s basketball team, however, will no longer be able to participate in the Patriot League tournament due to a positive COVID-19 test within the program’s Tier 1*. The positive test occurred before they were able to be isolated. (*Tier 1 is the highest exposure tier and consists of student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and physical therapists, medical staff, equipment staff and officials.)

Men’s BBall is off the Yard.

Last week I teased my friend - a VP at Colgate - about how their basketball team has 8 wins against Holy Cross.

Does Navy look really good?

Your take is dangerous, devoid of empathy, moronic and offensive. It also just pisses me off.

I'm a current Mid and woke up this past Thursday, feeling like I was hit by a train. By Thursday afternoon after testing positive, I literally got winded moving my gear up 3 flights of stairs when I moved into ISO.

Mind you, I'm in pretty good shape -- about 5% body fat and regularly max the PRT. By way of context, I had run respectively, 10 miles on Monday, 9.5 miles on Tuesday and another 6+ miles in the cold and rain on Wednesday (tapering down for the PRT that was ultimately cancelled) the day before getting sick -- all without getting too winded. On Thursday, I literally had trouble getting up the stairs.

Since testing positive, it's only gotten worse. I can't get warm and stop shivering. My resting heart rate, normally in the low 60's -- was as high as 106. I ache all over and have a pounding headache and feel like I have fog in my brain. Fortunately my O2 sats are stable -- but definitly down.

I'm not alone -- we are currently talking about ***hundreds*** of symptomatic and really sick Mids right now . This doesn't include the asymptomatic, positive ones.

But you felt compelled to write, "The virus doesn't affect these college kids." What's wrong with you?

I get that Bancroft is a congregate setting and implementing public health measures is super challenging. I also know that there are a ton of sick Mids right now who like, me were beyond precautious (including double masking) -- but the new VOC (variants of concern including B1.117) are super virulent and when you are in PE classes together, sharing bathrooms, training etc. transmission is going to happen.

At this point, lovetheheat, your probably saying, "my point exactly" -- just let the virus rip through the Brigade because you can't stop it. Same laissez-faire attitude that lead to how many unnecessary deaths among the more than 500K dead in the U.S.?

The situation sucks. I'm worried about my short-term health -- but I'm equally worried about any long-term sequelae that are impossible to forecast because of the novelty of this virus and subsequent disease. At the same time, leadership here is truly doing the best they can -- short of shutting down USNA all together and sending the Brigade home. The move to hard rom earlier tonight was a necessary and responsible step. I'm incredibly thankful that we have leaders of character and intellect like the Supe and Dant in charge -- versus someone like you.

lovetheheat -- come join me in ISO for a few days so you can get infected -- or better yet -- send your college kid to room with me for a few days if this is how you truly feel.

Easy for you to be cavalier a**hole on a message board -- ain't it?

ovetheheat, you know the difference between you and me?

I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy or you, or your college kid. And unlike you, I would be up for doing anything I could (while still allowing for the our USNA mission to continue) that would help slow or stop the transmission so that no other person would have to go thru this.
