2 weeks until Prep School

Anyone else out there getting ready to send your son or daughter off to KP on their way to NMMI? Not sure what he should take with him for his 2 days at KP, and not sure what all to ship to NMMI. Any advice? I have the list of all the supplies, should it be there waiting for him?:confused:
 
Congrats Kristymom on the soon to be KP kid. Perhaps WAMom will see this post & she can get you some good info for NMMI. Even though her son is at the "other Point", he went through NMMI so she might have some truly good advice. Hang tight! :thumb:

My son went to NMMI last year as a West Point prep. Regarding the items on the NMMI list, he should either bring them or you should send them ahead so they are there when he arrives. Don't worry about buying cleaning supplies he can get those in the cadet store. Some of the items such as a vacuum, iron, and ironing board he may be able to share with his roommate. It is up to you if you want to spend the money to ship them or not. After they get through the first 21 days (called RAT period) he should be able to go off post to Target or Walmart to pick up any items he needs.

Sorry I can't help you with what to take to KP. Is there a contact at KP you can ask? Any KP parents that can help with this?
 
former Prep Candidate for the USMMA.

My son attended NMMI last year as a Prep Candidate for the USMMA. He just started classes today in the Class of 2011.
With regards to extra clothes, your daughter should bring some extra light clothes. The weather at Kings Point is warm and humid this time of year. She can give them back to you when you attend the parent’s open house in a few months
While at NMMI, she will have little use for street clothes. During her stay, they (NMMI) require her to wear a uniform on and off the post.
While at Kings Point, the Academy will treat your daughter well. The Academy will assign her to a female Plebe that attended NMMI last year. She will bunk with them and have a sample of Academy life. My son felt this was helpful, and it provided an opportunity to find out about the experience they will have at NMMI. Your daughter might tour the harbor or have an ice cream social with the other Prep Candidates. This along with several lectures detailing the Academy’s expectations of your daughter.

Thanks for the info. I have a son attending, not my daughter..(she's only 15..maybe in a few years!)
We have all the "white stuff" ready to ship to NMMI. Have the khakis and the white shirt for Tuesday, will add a few more things.
I appreciate any advice.
