Soon several 2010 USCGA Scholars will be preparing to in process, plan and travel to either Alabama or New Mexico. High school is ending, and several scholars will be moving forward on their exciting USCGA journey. With this thinking in mind, has any USCGA 2010 Scholar received his/her assignment to either Marion Alabama or NMMI New Mexico Prep School(s) ?

All CGAS assignments have been made, everyone should know by now.

Congrats to all the CGA Scholars - orientation at the USCGA is Jul 23-Aug 3.

Thank You

Thank you for the USCGAS information.
We received the assignment.:thumb:

It's MMI for my son. We were told July 20th also...that my sons 18th bday and he's reporting...what a birthday present!!!

In just one short week

Really, really excited to start our travel to New London for summer orientation in just one short week. We'll be driving up from VA, but he'll be flying back home on Aug. 3 before heading off to MMI the following weekend.

Everything I read suggests my son should travel light. How much room will he need in his bag for the uniforms distributed during orientation?

Hope everyone travels safe - what a grand adventure awaits!!!

Summer Orientation MMI and NMMI

Yes. Only one more week... An exciting time for everyone!:thumb:

Packing Light

Great adventure awaits for all. My son is going straight to MMI from New London to report with other athletes. How do they pack their uniforms as he has a backpack he is taking stuff to orientation in??? Also anyone out there know if it ok to wear shorts to report in day??

Our understanding about packing issued items is that the Cadet Candidates will receive a seabag during "orientation" to stow their belongings. They should only take what is on the list to CGA and pack it in something easy to carry such as a backpack. I'm not sure what they should wear when reporting to MMI. We got back yesterday from a visit to MMi. Very informative. They are truely interested in the CGAS success.

Yes. The idea is to travel light with a shoulder bag for the USCGAS. Suitcases would present a problem during the busy day... Just curious, where is everyone traveling from across the USA?

Thanks all for the info. It's funny that it seems every question and tip that you can think of is answered when you are reporting for the academy, but not a whole lot of info/tips on scholars. However everyone has been great in answering questions at the CGA and MMI. We are coming from Boise, Idaho. My son will be playing baseball and the BB coach wanted him there early so he will be going right from New London to Marion, so he needs to take a couple of things to get him by until he gets to Marion. We have a big box at home that will be shipped out to meet up with him when he gets there. If anyone out there has any other tips or thoughts let us know. We are finding that we don't know what we don't know. This is going to be an exciting year for all the scholars and do them a world of good and get them prepared for the Class of 2015. And leave them with a good bank roll to boot.:thumb:

Good Luck to the CGA Scholars as they report to New London today!

36 heading south to MMI, 29 going west to NMMI.
