Soon several 2010 USCGA Scholars will be preparing to in process, plan and travel to either Alabama or New Mexico. High school is ending and our sons and daughters are moving forward on an exciting USCGA journey. With this thinking in mind, I'm suggesting USCGA scholars and parents can share information about their knowledge, expectations and experience with the USCGA Scholars Program. My wife and I are excited for our USCGA scholar son and we are waiting to hear more details in the near future.

Im not a parent nor am I a CGAS but I am at NMMI and I just received an appointment to CGA for 2014. On top of that, my roommate and many of my buddies here are CG scholars. The scholars program is a great opportunity and a chance to improve on your weaknesses before you get to the academy. My advice for your son or anyone who is going through the program is to stay focused. Remember why you are here and work on improving yourself. It can be hard sometimes when your here and your loaded down with work, you might question why your doing this but you just have to keep reminding yourself of the end goal and work hard. If you do, the time here will fly and you will have your appointment in no time.

Again, repeating what Luigi said there are several forms in the preparatory schools section that talk about life at both NMMI and MMI.

Good luck to your son next year and at the academy.

2010 USCGA Scholar Info

Just curious, have any of the 2010 USCGA Scholars received their in-process information packets in the US mail. Information related what to pack, dates and so on ... Thank you.

I'm the parent of a USCGA Scholar from 2008/09. My D is at USCGA this year. She went to MMI last year. I've posted several times in the past about her experiences, but if you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me. I can't say enough good about the program! :thumb: She is doing great at USCGA this year & I firmly believe a part of that is due to her "extra" year of preparation.

Got mine in the mail yesterday

I agree with Stitch626, our DD's were at MMI together and the extra year has served my DD well! :thumb::wink:

My son received a call yesterday, he was offered the Scholars program! He was on the waitlist...and now he is super excited to have this opportunity!!! We wont be receiving any info until next week. Can anyone give me any info regarding dates?
Thanks so much!!!

Summer Orientation at USCGA Academy in New London - July 20-Aug 3
NMMI Reporting Date - Aug 3 (go directly from New London)
MMI Reporting Date - Aug 10

Congratulations to all - we're really excited, too.

Congratulations to all those selected for the scholars program and welcome to the Coast Guard family. We're so happy to have you

Thank you! We're very excited about the opportunity!

We havent received a list or anything from the academy yet as far as what my son needs to bring. Can I find that anywhere? Are there any incidentals that arent mentioned that we should plan on? Thanks so much for the help!

Two years ago, my daughter got her info packet from CGA on June 10th and her first letter from MMI around the same time. The date on her letter returning info (birth certificate, SS Card, Immunization records, etc) to MMI was June 24. (yes - I kept all that stuff - figured it might help someone else someday:wink:) If they are running a little late, it might be in the mail! Keep the faith! - USCGA is likely very busy getting ready for those incoming Swabs, but you haven't been forgotten!!!:thumb:
