2013 Facebook Groups USCGA vs USMMA

No he applied only to CGA and MMA and a host of other civ schools. He is not really interested in those. He did get a call from one of the Asst Football Coaches tonight at MMA. I think he is interested in playing ball, but that is very secondary to just picking the correct school. My wife would love to see him play football, because it puts him on the right split that he can come home for Christmas - not exactly how I see things.

He can go home for Christmas weather he plays football or not.

I looked at both USMMA and USCGA...I decided on USCGA, but I can say that Kings Point is a great school, and either way you do, he's making a great choice. I work with a Kings Point grad at work. Good guy. They make good officers at either academy....depends on if he's set on USCG or if he isn't sure which service he wants. USCG is an option out of USMMA too. With USCGA, you're set for USCG.

football players are A split which means they might not be home for christmas depending on the ships that he/she chooses/gets assigned to be on. B split has no summers until senior but is home for thanksgiving and christmas.

No - he applied to IU, UW, ASU, NAU and the UC system in California. I have very little confidence in the UC system. I am sure he will get into some UCs. They don't announce until like March. But it seems they are hardly interested in anything but SATs, Grades and Class Standings. I think it will hurt them in the long run as more leaders will get produced by other schools that place emphasis on this but also seriously consider the whole-person concept. But who am I to suggest. Just seems very academic elitist if you ask me.

Cal Maritime acceptance just came in yesterday.. so even if the CGA and MMA fall thru looks like D will get choice #3 or #4. She was pretty excited when the mail came in. Cal Maritime has a really nice CG Reserve program, Txas A&M Galveston has a Navy program... hmmmm well they both are on the back burner waiting for CGA and MMA
