2014 Appointment Thread

Good luck to you all, plebes-to-be and families. Remember to breathe, all of you! Most great journeys begin with a stomachache. At least mine did...

I'll keep an eye out for those ribbons.

how are they doing now?

Class of 2014----how are they doing?!!! They are deep into the dark ages---past 1st semester-planning blocks and majors---everyone still holding up ok?

DS doing great! He said that he got his khakis and "Choker Whites" today. I think they look so great in the Choker uniform! They get an overnight this weekend or next and they get two overnights for President's Day weekend, so I think the Dark Ages are looking a little more palatable to them!

Thanks!

Just realized that this lets the ones waiting on class of 2015 appointments and idea of the timeline when said appointments went out!

ok what are choker whites and khakis? i thought they were doing away with khakis!

I don't know why they were issued the khakis. The chocker whites are the formal white uniform they'll wear for graduation (I'll send you a picture).

As far as I know, plebe summer detailers and any mids staying in Bancroft over the summer for summer school or other programs will continue wearing khakis as they have in the past.

After the first few days of post-Christmas-homesickness passed, DS regained his sense of humor and has seemed to be in better spirits this second semester. I think having a better QPR than expected helped. He says he really likes his classes this semester, and a friend of his told me he is "rocking" his calculus class, which is always nice to know.

Would love to hear from more parents with Mids in the Great Class of 2014!

DD reported all is going very well. She really likes the quirkiness of her DifEQ instructor and the stories of her physics prof (Submariner LCDR - Academy grad). Says its tough having to do all the plebe stuff while taking Youngster classes. (No good deed (or attribute) goes unpunished. )

They put in choices for summer assignments a couple weeks ago. I guess NASS was a popular choice as they get to do all the "fun stuff" of plebe summer and get an extra week of leave. DD also put in for a Sub tour and sailing.

I asked about the overall attitude during the dark ages and she said its not too bad. They seem to have got the rhythm of the place - "the days are long but the weeks are short."

I believe the khakis are required for their time in the fleet this summer. My DS also put in for NASS and subs. He has adjusted to the Academy very well, balancing academics, military obligations, and sports better than expected. Loves most of his classes and professors. Sounds great when he calls and does not seem to be affected by the dark ages. Squad went snow boarding last weekend!

Same here---long days and short weeks---hopes to get 1st choices for blocks. DS says they should know by presidents weekend which blocks they have so hopefully we can change vacation plans again for the last time-lol. YP Cruise and Philmont Scout reservation.Saturday training was at the Air and Space museum where they filmed Transformers --he loved it i know it was great to get off the yard. He has decided his major Naval Architecture-and seems to be adjusting well---whew-now back on the roller-coaster break time is over!!!! Making great friends roommates are great -we hope to finally meet them when we go up for presidents weekend and the ballgame. Hoping the weather holds out for the trip!!!

:shake::yllol::shake:
DS in doing much better 2nd semester. He loves his new roomies, and GF will visit presidents weekend, so life is good! Can't wait to hear his summer schedule!

2014 Mom

My DS Plebe is doing great as well. Plebe Summer he was physically prepared for so he was okay, mentally though he said it was tough. First semester completed with good grades. Roommates are great. They are sad that a few friends have been voluntold to be shotgunned to a new company.
I am learning that I am not in control anymore. In reality probably never was. USNA (and God) are in control. To you Mom's and Dad's -- you can adjust to that and your DS or DD will be just fine.
