Does anybody know when the boards meet, i submitted my app a while ago, but i had to make a correction because i chose a dual unit. When do they meet? The dates? Soonest i would hear of my selection if selected, same day? ive already gotten accepted to my 1st choice school and i wanted to confirm my admissions asap, but im waiting to hear back from scholarship incase it is to a different university. My package is tough, recruiter wanted me to turn it in asap in aug because he said i would prob be selected. NROTC NAVY OPTION

The board meets on a rolling basis, typically every couple of weeks throughout the fall and winter. Normally, those who receive them are notified 2-3 weeks after the board meets. They do not publicly release the dates of there boards, and sometimes, the boards are delayed. We have been informed that there has been one confirmed board already at the end of August and another one was slated for last week. There have been no announcements by any applicants who have received scholarships, yet, so I'm assuming no results have been released yet. Once results start coming out, you will normally see people posting on this forum of having received the scholarship.

I would suggest that you be prepared not to hear anything until mid-October at the earliest, and as it is always stated here, the answer might not come down until April.

The selection process is multifaceted and the big pieces are school selection and intended majors.

They will always push candidates get in early, mostly due to the fact that it increases their amount of boards you can be reboarded for regarding selection, and once the slots for those colleges are filled, they are filled. It has been said some of the most popular colleges will be filled by the end of fall. The recruiter may have pushed you to submit early for that exact reason.

It is more common than you think to be reboarded than to get a scholarship on the first shot out.

You will know if you were boarded because they will send an email that tells you at this time you were not selected, but will be reviewed at the next selection board. At least that has how it has happened in the past.

I would also discuss with your folks the financial questions at hand within your family regarding if the only way you can attend this school you must be on NROTC scholarship. The fact is not every scholarship recipient will stay with the program after one year. It is incredibly hard to stay with a program just because you have created a life and can only afford it by owing the next 8 years of your life (4 in ROTC + 4 AD)

I agree that it's more than likely a long wait. But I will say that last year (NROTC) DS did not receive any information when he was reboarded. He literally did not hear anything until March 28th when he was awarded his scholarship. His package was in Pensacola before Labor Day.

I have already been accepted to my first choice school, university of mississippi electrical engineering, should i accept the admissions then since i shall be hearing possibly very late or when would be the ideal time?

The NROTC Scholarship instructions say: "Applying to all five of the choices will increase the chances for acceptance and enrollment and will therefore increase the opportunities to use a scholarship if selected." Unless you find out ASAP that you have received a NROTC scholarship to Ole Miss, then I would apply to the other schools on your list within the application period is still open for all of them.

notification..

has anybody recieved any word back yet? also mine says no selection made yet. good, bad?

Valencia,

Trust me the first poster that hears will start a new thread of WOO HOO I got an NROTC scholarship.

Nobody has started that thread yet.

Deep breaths!

Boards and 5 schools

According to candidate guidance office, boards will begin to meet mid-Oct and start the review process.

They absolutely said to apply to ALL 5 of your listed schools-and some others that you may want to go to with NROTC programs just in case.

Was told earliest anyone would hear is sometime late November but sounds like that is even flexible.

I would let your recruiter or coordinator know that you've been accepted at 1st choice school so they know. The more info they have about you, the easier it is on the review boards and the entire scholarship team.

Good luck and keep us all posted.

MJP,

I have no bone in this discussion, but there are posters that have stated the first board already met for NROTC.

In the all of the years I have been on this site, NROTC has never held their first board later than mid-Sept., including the year of sequestration.

I am not saying your information is incorrect, just saying that in years past and with the current info from posters of how their page changed to No decision, I am betting that they have already met.

That being said, the first mass release is usually end of Oct., first of November. The bulk usually come out between Dec and Feb. Think Bell graph. Sept. and April being smallest amounts awarded.

The Navy has yet to complete it's first board. It typically would have completed two by this date in the past.

Just my opinion, but I feel this is the one area NROTC fails.

I am not sure why they keep the dates of the boards super secretive. I respect it, but I don't understand it.

Why not just publish it like AROtC and AFROTC? I would assume, and we all know what that word means,
~ Publishing the dates would relieve phone calls and emails for the NROTC contact person AND speculation/anecdotal information flying/sailing around on the internet.

Not slamming them, because honestly, I believe nrotc scholarships are the hardest one to receive, and I believe now with their AFA addition this year is going to be a new twist.
~ Posters wanting to know chances will now have to place everything on the table
~~ Fitness Assessment, cgpa, rank, SAT/ACT, ECs, intended majors (STEM?), college selections.

For what it's worth, I was just told first board meets (TUES) next week. No way to tell what applicants will get reviewed at that board. Next would be in Oct.

Good luck to all applicants.

Remember that being reboarded is not OMG it is over!

Also, remember that overall @20% of mids are on scholarship and more commission 4 years later that entered without a scholarship than you can even fathom while you are on the rollercoaster ride this year.

Fate and Destiny. It is what you do when Fate handed you the unexpected that can shape your Destiny.
