Last year in early July DS was contacted by admissions asking him to have his transcripts faxed to them as they wanted to confirm his self reported GPA so they could offer him an LoA. My son had the school fax the grades and two days later there was an LoA in the mail. Application hadn't opened up online at that time. So at least last year they didn't require that.

Everything comes into play for an LOA I believe. I think you must have your Transcripts in and Standardized Test Scores as a minimum. But the CAR or your Evaluations or the CFA or a change in your class rank (always report a major change up to the Academy through your Counselor if it wasn't shown on your transcripts) could move you into consideration, I believe. That is why there is so much focus on finishing your file early.

Well I was a bit concerned that I got everything in minus the CFA and still didn't get an LoA. I talked to the admissions officer for the Southeast area and he said that I was definitely very competitive, but he was wondering why I hadn't taken the CFA yet. He also mentioned something about raising my SAT scores, so I guess that if I do both early, I should hopefully be looking at an LoA.

These were mentioned in a SLS Q&A as required to be considered for LOA's at all if not being recruited for other reasons. IE: Not a recruited athlete or underepresented district, etc.

And I'm thinking also a "not at risk" CFA, will need to confirm with my son.

There is no reason not to get SAT's & transcript in ASAP. You can always improve the SAT's and transcripts usually take some time to be sent by the school.

Do they allow you to retake SAT in even if you are in college?

They do. The SE admissions officer stated that if I could raise my SAT score up by just 30 or 40 points, I would look even more competitive. And thankfully, I can actually take my SAT's at Virginia Tech so it's quite convenient.

Looks like 26 July is the end of the first wave of LOA's?
 
Those with LOA's....

If 26 July looks like the last wave of Loa's given out, are they given out in blocks or at specified times, if so, when will the next group go out?

Those who have received Loa's and don't mind sharing your ACT/SAT scores, can you list your scores either next to your name on the loa post or in a new post. Just trying to see how the Academy is distributing the loa's at this point (ie: based on high scores primarily or ?)
