2015 LOA's recieved

LOA SAT Qualifications for Class of 2015?

I am a Junior and have a 2160 from my first SAT in Oct. 690CR/720Math/750 Writing. I'm first in my class and the typical EC's and academic awards.

Is this continued profile worthy of an LOA from West Point?

Thanks for your experiened input

That's a great SAT score and obviously a strong class rank. What is the total size of your class?

As long as you are also engaged in sports (mainly Varsity level) and have a leadership position(s) in clubs or organizations, I would expect you to receive an LOA.

Current class size is 468

Unless I was a Regional Commander or on the Admissions Committee, I would be VERY hesitant about telling a candidate this. I'm a FFR and I would never tell a candidate my opinion about their chances for a LOA.

Ranger45 - It's a little early for you to be wondering about getting a LOA!
The stats that you gave are very impressive (Congratulations!) and yes they may seem 'worthy' of a LOA, but I have seen stats as good as those NOT receive a LOA and stats not as good as those receive a LOA. You did not mention if you played a sport. You need participate in a Varsity level sport.

There are so many facets to a LOA. The make-up of the applicant pool varies from year to year which affects how many LOAs are given. Who knows what it will be for the 2016 class. You may receive one, you may not and no one here can tell you either way. I know that is not the answer you were looking for but it is the best answer. I would hate for you to have posters telling you that you are a shoe-in for a LOA, get your hopes up and then not receive one.

You are off to a great start in the academic area. :thumb:
Continue to exceed.
Participate in a Varsity sport.
Be active in ECs that you love.
Pursue leadership positions.
Work out.

And I would highly recommend that you apply to SLS. That is what should be on your radar screen right now, not a LOA!

LOA Responses-Thank You

Thanks for your responses.

I understand my focus and I appreciate your honesty.
I am applying to the SLS,hope I'm fortunate to get accepted

Ranger45 WP Candidate

Sorry, I didn't realize that Ranger is currently a junior.

Buff, I'm assuming that Ranger realizes I am merely a candidate and my opinion is not one to be depended on. I personally think he is a great candidate for a Letter of Assurance next year if he maintains a strong academic record and continually engages in sports/extracurriculars. I think this because my profile was strong in academics as well, and I received a Letter of Assurance during the summer before my senior year.

There's no need to defend yourself! Buff81 is an admissions rep and should be the one to answer those kind of questions anyway. Your personal opinion really won't change anything Ranger45 already thinks about how competitive he is going to be.

haha I was really just providing support as to why I think Ranger qualifies for an LOA, rather than defending myself. But you're right; it's up to Ranger to work for what he believes to be satisfactory for admission.

YEA!

DS was just notified of his LOA. We are so happy for him and look forward to his continued success at USMA.
