2016 Stats - Office of the Dean

I was accepted in to the class of 2016, but was medically disqualified two weeks before flying out; I'm doing ROTC this year with a LOA; if I got a nomination from my ROTC commander would that guarantee me a spot in the academy anyways? Or if there are more than 20 people out there with LOA's in JROTC/ROTC, would we have to get congressional nominations as well?

You should pursue all the nominations you can. I know with the LOA you will only need one, but until one comes thru you should proceed on all available noms. So... Although I don't know the answer to your specific question, it seems to me it doesn't matter. Good luck. Hope the broken bone heals quickly.

Yes, any applicant with a LOA is guaranteed an appointment as long as that applicant has a nomination.

No, as long as you have a LOA and nomination, the Admissions office has to figure out how to match you with an appointment. Not likely that there will be "more than 20 people out there with LOA's in JROTC/ROTC," but if they do West Point will have to offer appointments to JROTC/ROTC nomination only first than charge others to different appointment sources.

Your JROTC/ROTC nomination is no guaranteed for just being a member of the ROTC program and your PMS has to endorse you. No reason for him/her or not to, but never know. What if the PMS says that I won't give you my endorsement until how I see you perform this semester and at the end of the semester says I don't think you are good enough. So always good to apply for other nominations.

Do writing scores now count? My highest ACT score was my writing score and I was under the impression it was not going to count. However, on the profile it states that the scores listed include only scores used as a basis for admission, and the writing scores are listed.

I was wondering that too. But for the opposite reason. The ACT writing that is on the profile is expressed on the 36 point scale which leads me to believe that it is the "English plus Writing" score from the ACT since the writing score alone is on a 12 point scale.

some questions about the posting of the stats:

NUMBERS:
It states that the number of Nominated is 4,285
It states that the number of Qualified (in academics and physical aptitude) is 2,629. Does that mean that some nominees are not qualified? why would a MOC nominate someone not qualified?

ACT SCORES:
Five areas are listed: English, Math, Science, Reading and English + Writing.
Are all areas weighted equally?

MEDICAL:
There was no stat on how many applicants who go through dodmerb are qualified/disqualified medically. Does anyone know that breakdown?

I don't know the answer to most of your questions but, at least in our district, the MOC deadline is WAY before the deadline for the CFA. Someone could also be nominated but then become academically unqualified due to 7th semester grades.
