2016 USNA Mailbox Stalkers Club...

hopefulmomMN- we are leaving for vacay to Kona on Friday and by DS and I were just talking about that. Part of me doesnt want the bad news to come if it is before the trip but of course good news is welcome. DS said, "well I hope we find out before the trip, otherwise Grandma will have to take over the title of mailbox stalker for us and report in each day of the status of a BFE or TWE..."

Looking back over the numbers above and that fact that applicants are getting wait list notices, it looks like the class must be full or very close to it. Trying not to get pessimistic but....

From a realistic standpoint.....
I agree and I don't think NAPSters were included in those numbers, hence about a 200 buffer (and certain USNA candidates, waitlisted) and there is still a possibility that some of those declining appointments might go to NAPSters. In the chance that NAPS graduates closer to 200 versus 250, there might be more appointment slots; this will be solidified in early May.

BUT....until the TWE, there is still hope!

I noticed status updates to our system on Friday (specifically, turndowns), so there might be a batch heading out early next week.

Jadler03 - would our assigned BGO be able to tell us if our status in the system has changed showing a turned down?

Theoretically, yes. I think most BGOs prefer to allow the TWE to arrive and that is the method I like to go by. So, depending on how your BGO feels, he/she might tell you or not.

As you already know, the opposite is true with good news, it is not likely to come from us at first.

Best wishes!

I would think that this number does not include those at the prep schools like NMMI , and MMI. My son attends MMI as an unsponsered cadet and we were told yesterday that they have no word on who has received appointments there. We were told that they should receive that news possibly this week.

I just received word from my mom that I am on the waitlist. Bittersweet moment I guess. Apparently the letter said they offered 1300 people appointments, and they are hoping to have a class of 1190. If more than 110 people decline their appointments, then they go to the waitlist. I am currently on an Air Force ROTC scholarship at WVU. This is my last shot at the Naval Academy, because next year I incur an obligation to the Air Force. Fortunately I will be visiting Annapolis this weekend to visit family. So I plan on going to the Academy as well. Is there anything I can do at this point?

I'm sorry for you. But grateful for your future service in the Air Force. So - is this the end of the road for all of us? Is the writing on the wall?

I hope I am wrong in thinking that since all the BFE's have been mailed, and we are not getting a call from the MOC, then perhaps it is the end of the road? I am about out of gas.

Mainernavymom- I'm with you. I feel sick to my stomach right now. Parenting this potential situation is going to be tough.

It sounds like it, unless your BFE is still in transit... which might very well be the case if the TWE hasn't arrived yet. Not trying to get hopes up or down one way or the other. Just stating a fact or possibility.

For those of you still anxiously waiting, I would really start putting Plan B to thought. It's likely a lot of TWEs/TWEs (Wait List) have been placed in the mail or will be sent out within the next week.

If NAPSters and Foundation appointments have not been extended, that would make approximately 300 offers waiting. To be honest, I don't know when Admissions traditionally extends those for Foundation (i.e. if it has been done already or still outstanding, similar to NAPS), but based on someone's personal observation, they might not have been extended. Given there are 195 offers still to be extended and after 110 (according to WL letter) appointments have been declined, it can reasonably be infered that Admissions is "reserving" 305 appointments (whoever those still might go to).

Best of luck to those still waiting. If in receipt of a TWE, allow sometime to "cool down" and re-visit the reapplying stickies, if you have the desire to try again. I, like a few other BGOs, have done the process twice, and with the other BGOs *lucky* enough to get it in the first shot, are always around for questions.

I know the anxiety and frustration that you are/will be going through and it is hard to stomach. Least to say, anyone who has made it this far has absolutely a bright future ahead and would have been accepted, hands down, to practically any other university. If NROTC is your route, don't forget the ultimate goal is a commission and you are still on that path!

Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Nothing here either, not has the other guy from my high school heard anything or the two buddies from Boys State. Sigh.....

Nothing here either in the mail but my DS did hear from his BGO by email. He has been very good at communicating to us the entire process and as difficult as it was for him to tell my DS, he did say that he was turned down accordiNg to the info he had access to. Actually NONE of his candidates were accepted! My DS was his last hope and he was shocked he was turned down.

We are all handling this news very well...surprisingly!!. (wine helps A LOT) Thankfully my DS has NROTC and AFROTC scholarships and is also waiting on the USAFA.

He was 3Q / 2 nom/ 3.94 ugpa/ 3 varsity athlete/ 30 math act-26 eng/ 300 + volunteer hours/ 4 years of student council and 3 years elected class officer-usna counselor told him he recieved max points for CFA and BGO said he was his #1 candidate- just to highlight a few things.... Application done in Aug/ attended cvw in Oct And also a URM... I have heard many many time on here that being an URM makes a huge difference and let me be th first to say it did not for my DS. Put that argument to rest! Do I think he deserved a appointment...YES! But so do many others who will be turned down.

He will not be reapplying... If he choses to take either ROTC scholarships he will end up achieving the same goal- a commissioned officer.

I thank you all who have given advice and support through this long 8 month process. Still have some hope for AFA but either way I know my DS will find sucess and happiness in whatever path he choses.

Good luck to all those still waiting!

What an amazing young man who is VERY well qualified! If he didn't get in, I can't imagine what the qualifications are of those that did. Congrats to him on the ROTC scholarships. I'm sure he'll be successful whichever route he chooses. My DS is still waiting to hear from USNA and NROTC. At this point, the chances are slim, but at least he lasted this long . The wait is difficult, but soon we'll know.
