I'm going on an overnight to the academy this week and then turning in my commitment. Is anyone on the forum going to accept their appointment for 2016? I thought it might be nice to start a facebook group or something.

See you there!!! Dont make a facebook group because upperclassmen join the group, pretend to be one of the few, and then torment you on I day. Thats what I've heard at least.

They also lurk around here and mine for information. Good luck to you all!
Bubble wrap.
Run.
Push ups.
DS thought he understood there would be a lot of marching. Then on the first phone call " you wouldn't believe how much marching!"
Lol. Ya think?

Having been there and done that, join the face book group, it really isn't a big deal. Yeah DI's may stalk it, but don't post anything too dumb, and you'll be fine. It's really a great source of advice, a way to network, figure out what's going on and make some friends before you walk through the doors in O'Hara. There are already 5 set backs from 2015 who made it through 1 trimester and know what its like, when they join the FB group they will be able to answer most of questions that you can have.

Also this is a good time to start thinking about getting your TWIC card. Just look into the nearest office to you. For us the closest was in a neighboring state. Ds also didn't want to miss a single day of high school either as to op-out of some finals.
It may be a half day trip. AND you have to go back to pick it up in person. We elected to get wisdom teeth out and go for TWIC card application over spring break. While the rest of the family went to the Atlantic Coast. Wasn't a sacrifice because this was such an exciting time.
Also f you do not have a passport it is time to one tha up as well. The TWc card was 125 bucks or so and the same with the passport. 500 co-pay for wisdom teeth also for us. So this snt a cheap time and some may need to plan for it. When yo get your Logging In Handbook you will also get the list of little things you need sch as socks ( certain kind, undershirts etc. I think all that stuff wad a few hundred bucks as well. Just a heads up of the funn supply gathering. Ahead. Start thi king about eyeglass and contact lens perscriptions as well. Since KP is not a DOD academy you will not have the government benifits for these. Vaccinations are needed ad well. They also recommend Gardisil for both females and males. We missed this one because the dees have to be so many weeks apart and we did y have the schedule to do it.
This is all I can thi k of at the moment. This is such a fun time for you please give yourself plenty of time to get t all done without panic or stress.
Pleas forgive all the typos. I am using my phone and I think I have deformed thumbs. ( I heat Megan Fox does as well s that is another thing we have n common, lol). Am not going to try to edit.

Pile on to all the great advise from Lynpar.

If you dont have the vaccinations KP will get you them, but you dont want your DD/DS uncomfortable from immunizations if you can get them done prior to indoc.

Prepare for indoc but dont overdue it. DS did so many pushups prior that he ended up with tennis elbow during the summer. Enjoy your senior year of HS and keep yourself healthy.

Join the facebook page. Youll meet friends and share. Yes future DIs will lurk to score dirt. But dirt or not they will yell at you. DS told me the hardest part of indoc was trying not to laugh.

Search 2015 indoc to find photos of indoc and get excited for the watefront activities that are the real neat part of the journey.

There are videos on YouTube if you search USMMA Indoc 2015. A couple are from parents but the one put together by the Alumni Foundation (pretty sure they made it) is really good! My DS went solo to Indoc so those videos and pictures, especially the photos from M/n Antonelli, were very important to me. Go to Picassa photos on the web. Type in Midshipman Antonelli and you will see hundreds of photos from August and September. Also Kings Point Waterfront has posted a ton of great photos highlighting the waterfront activities. But once those Plebe Candidates line up and march off late in the morning in their PT gear and shaved heads, all the parents were in the same boat. Only I didn't have a 13 hour car ride while trying to recover (from the allergies don't ya know:wink: ).
Again I apologize for my above post. I actually thought I deleted it because there were just so darn many typos but I couldn't even do THAT right!
Really embarrassed  here

Vaccinations - I suggest to make sure you get ALL immunizations prior to indoc.. We were short the chicken pox and Hep A.. these are 2 that need 2nd doses 6 months apart. (not 5 months and 28 days! we could not do this over Thanksgiving due to timing) USMMA told DS he needed to get these shots at home over Christmas. Since he was 19 by Christmas, he needed special adult serum which not all clinics keep on hand. As a parent I looked and read and thought I had everything done before indoc... Ha HA :shake: Sempra Gumby!

congrats!

Congratulations to 2016's!!!! :thumb:

the advice to now "watch what you say" on THIS sight as well as a fb page is actually good advice.

MY advice for future 2016 Plebe Candidates is; to stay in shape... enjoy the remainder of your Senior year...and ATTEND THE (here I go again LynPar) Spring Open House for New Appointees (go with your parents). You will meet future 2016 classmates... and you will learn a TON of VERY valuable information. We flew in for the Open House last year, and spent the night in Queens (don't do that- stay in Great Neck or further out but don't stay in Queens). I believe this years Open House is on April 9th. Make hotel reservations for this (and for INDOC) early. We met a wonderful mom/dad, DS (ie. "dear son") from the Cleveland area- DS's are not in the same company now but are friends. I ended up calling/ texting the Cleveland mom a TON (and vice versa) when it came time to "shop" for what the boys needed for INDOC. Trust me, finding those correct navy blue shorts and right kind of tennis shoes wasn't easy! It was good to have someone to talk to that was in the same boat. USMMA parents are quite close... there's a 2015 facebook page for 2015 parents and most likely they will be organizing a 2016 parent page when "it all begins". I recommend joining it- whether you do fb now or not- it's a huge source of support and info.

I found the links to the 2015 INDOC Videos (see below)- one of the 2015 moms on the fb page did this for each of the companies (pictures were taken during INDOC as well as were taken from parents when the took their kids for INDOC). This 2015 mom put the pictures to music and did this for each of the companies! Here they are;

Indoc 2011 - 1st Company http://youtu.be/e9bFsXHkxQM
Indoc 2011 - 2nd Company http://youtu.be/1z3N7zfODLQ
Indoc 2011 - 3rd Company http://youtu.be/_dxWFkkIcv8
Indoc 2011 - 4th Company http://youtu.be/Tn0N2oNJkCE
Indoc 2011 - Band Company http://youtu.be/54XKn7UmqIc

There also might also be a get together/ picnic for your state Parents Association right before you head off to school... if you get that intive, GO. We drove 4 hours down to KY to attend the picnick and it was great- a good source of info for parents as well as kids. DS met a few upper classmen whom not only gave him good advice heading into INDOC, but they also check up on DS from time to time at school. Very cool.

Congrats again! :welcome1:
