2017 AFROTC LEAD Info

Just a thread for cadets to post information that they have been told about LEAD.
 
Rumor about a 7th MAX, not concrete yet. IF 7th MAX is added, then I'm assuming it's a 100% selection rate? :shake:

From cadre, "They are asking for more spots than available cadets." So it'll be close to 100%. Added with the fact that the required GPA just went down to 2.0 for LEAD EAs and for POC selection.
 
Our cadre said that regional command (NE Regional Command) said that if you meet the minimums, you will be picked up to go to LEAD this summer.
 
Why they even bother having any sort of summer training for AFROTC anymore is beyond me. The program has gotten so watered down in terms of military disciple that its barely recognizable as a military training entity anymore. You can't even verbally disciple cadets now without being accused of hazing. No wonder the other branches give the AF a hard time. How will ROTC graduates be expected to serve as officers of the line, possibly in a battle situation, if they can't handle being yelled at once in a while. Sheesh

Although, cadre reserve the right to not send you because they do not see any potential in being a future officer. So keep it up guys!
 
if there are going to be 7 MAX's, I take it the duration of each MAX has been cut again?

Yes, by 2-3 days from the originally proposed individual sessions.

You'll be surprised that there are ways to stress people outside of yelling (and IMO more effective). While I agree summer training has basically water down it still accomplishes its main objective in evaluating future leaders of the Air Force. Now there will be people you think that are not officer material that will pass through LEAD and that's part of life. If you let that get into you and be malevolent about it you come off as a jerk. The good leaders would mentor the hell of the poor performers. That's kind of the biggest thing I've learned from FT. In the end the Air Force wants numbers and with bigger numbers requires a lower of standards. You may not like it but it is what it is. Other branches will make fun of each other all the time. It's part of the rivalry. You'll realize it's all fun and not let it get it into your head. Now for those going into the battlefield they have their own training to go through.

Makes sense. Combatives took 2 whole days out of training and you can debate the need for combatives. While I can shrimp my way out of a hold I would definitely go to my primal state and completely disregard anything I've learned in combatives to survive in a hand to hand combat situation. Also the fact that the Air Force needs to room and board Combatives CTAs makes it a good money/time slashing event.

I was just asking because we had a couple combatives CTAs selected here.

This. I don't know about your dets but my dets hold an extremely high standard. They already cut people who personally, I think could've made it through in other detachments. We have a final evaluations consisting of IDEs, GLPs, LEAD material examination, and a 3 mile, 2 min pushup, 2 min situp fitness assessment. Not only that but those who get lower than a 95 on the PFA are cut (no joke, last year, kid got 94.7 on his QFR right before Max 4, and cadre said nope)
 
Finalized LEAD dates:

17 May-5 June
30 May-18 June
11 June-30 June
24 June-13 July
7 July-26 July
19 July-7 August
1 August-20 August


aka 18 days per session
 
My DD just called and said her detachment had 100% selection. Yeah!!!

Congrats to your daughter and her detachment! Curious to hear if the same is happening at other schools and if announcements are being made broadly. Unfortunately my son is home on spring break this week so probably won't hear anything...
