2017 hopefuls

Hey everyone I'm from Virginia and I'll try to get involved in this thread. I have my extracurricular activities down pat but next year will be my test for school with 6 AP's.

Yeah, I was basically a captain last year, but unfortunately, our school only lets seniors be the 'official' captains. I don't think I'm anywhere near being competitive for running, our school is really small, and though we do well in our league, we focus mostly on academics. Thanks though.

Don't forget about this http://www.boysandgirlsstate.org/

If I understand things correctly, it has as much score value as a varsity captain in sports.

Going through the process again with the Falcon Foundation at NWP! Looking forward to the program and (hopefully) the academy! Good luck to all.

I suppose I should begin involvement in this thread. Does anyone know if CFA scores are compared from year to year?

I'm fairly certain they do not. You will retake the CFA and they will toss your old scores.

LFry is correct. Admissions will purge your old app and you start clean on a new app including the CFA scores.

I was selected as the first runner up for Girls' State, but the other girl will be going.

In our area, the alternates for Boys State are told to show up extra early on the first day to be ready in case there is a last minute no show, and that historically the decision makers in Am Legion have then agreed to fund/ admit all the alternates who were on site waiting. May be worth asking about.

Thanks. My mile time has dropped to just over 5:00. Also, good luck at prep school! I think I forgot to mention that earlier.

That's great! Thanks man, I look forward to reapplying with you next year.

I guess I'll add

Your ACT makes me so jelly, I think you are a shoe in, thankful your not a LEAD applicant or I'd throw the towel in haha

In regards to Boys State... my son and one other were in a deadlock, Legion wanted to send them both but only had funds for both. American Legion and their school counselor asked the school if they would pay for one of them to go and Legion could pay for the other and they agreed... so both are, happily, getting to attend. :shake:

I hope so. I'm competing with 3 other people from my school alone, but I'm hopeful.
I'm currently taking the 2 AP classes offered, and am number 2 in my class of 107, but since I've taken about 4 college classes through concurrent enrollment I should move up once I transfer my units. I have a weighted GPA of 4.45 and an unweighted of 4.0. I got a 780 on the SAT Critical Reading and a 670 on the SAT Math. I got a composite score of 30 on the ACT with a 34 in Reading a 26 in Math(but I'm retaking in October). I've lettered 3 times in Cross Country, twice in Track and Field, and run 5 marathons. I'm an officer in my AFJROTC unit and have nearly 800 hours of community service. I've been to Nashville to put on a relief camp and was selected to attend Summer Seminar. I really hope I'm competitive, but I don't know because I have no one to compare it to really, nobody from my school has ever gone to AFA. You sound like you're pretty qualified though. :)

Okay, five marathons as a high schooler? That can't be good on your body.

POPPYCOCK! There's a Navy SEAL who did an Ironman with Dave Goggins a few years back. He ran his first marathon at the tender age of 11. Captain Keith Davids.

Well, I haven't died yet, so there's always that. But we make sure we prepare our bodies for it. One of our coaches is a physical therapist so it makes it nice

How is everyone's quest for a nomination going so far? I just got all of the letters I need collected from the people I had writing them
