2018 CGA Waitlist

Congratulations all of you patient waitlisters. There are lessons in waiting that we have all learned!

My DS is still waiting and patient. He has plan B in place, but has been running his heart out and trying to make a record for his HS in Track and Field.

Objee, what date will the letters go out for waitlisters who will not be receiving an appointment?

Soon...

Awaiting news soon! I am hoping with all my heart to receive one of the last spots in the Class of 2018, if there is a spot left. Good luck to everyone else on the waitlist, I have Kings Point as plan B but one phone call from CGA and I will attend there in a heartbeat.

I heard of someone that just gave up their spot this week to accept an offer from USAFA.

Good luck to you all

My DS just received an email stating that no more appointments will be tendered but asked if he was still interested in remaining on the wait list until June 13th. What's that all about. They either don't have anymore spots for appointments or they do but are waiting until June 13th to tendered. I am glad DS have moved on to his Plan 1A, the senseless waiting for a spot at USCGA is over.

It means there are no more openings in the class, but openings may occur as appointees are disqualified due to medical or background checks, etc.

This is directly from the e-mail...sorry if it was confusing to you or your son:

"We do not anticipate having to tender any additional appointments, but would like to maintain a list of applicants who are committed to accepting an appointment should vacancies occur in the class between now and June 13th."

As Physicsguru stated, openings may occur for many different reasons, but we appreciate not all applicants that were interested in an appointment on May 1st are still interested in an appointment on June 2nd.

Still waiting and hopeful

My DS is still waiting and hopeful. He is physically, emotionally, intellectually ready. This training through the application process has taught him very important lessons in patience, waiting, and persistence. He will do well
wherever he goes, however he is still hoping to receive an appointment.

If anyone has advice on how he can prepare himself in leadership activities
next year as a Freshman at a major University it would be helpful.
He is thinking about taking search and rescue courses in the mountains, as he
is suitable for this kind of thing. If he did ROTC, would that be preferable on
a campus if he re-applies?

Jayalila,

While I am no expert in the process, I have noticed great success to the folks that self-prep at either Marion Military Institute or Georgia Military College. It seems every year there are young men and women that didn't get appointments that chose to "self-prep" by enrolling in one of those two schools and following the schedule and course load of the Coast Guard Academy Scholars that are assigned there. Often times if they are successful, they find themselves with Appointments at the end of the self prep year along with their CGAS counterparts.

I am sure the folks at CGA Admissions can give your son more guidance on that if he is interested.

Best of luck!
