2018 Summer Seminar Status Update

My DD was declined a spot for NASS last year and was an LOA turned full appointment offer this year. She was discouraged when the denial came last year. Hearing others say NASS had no bearing on actual appointment encouraged her, so now we share her journey.

Seriously.
Attendance at NASS has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not you receive an Offer of Appointment to The United States Naval Academy.
None.

Stop hitting F5, and just log out of the Candidate Information System. Go out and see the sun. ;)

Is there a portal? How do you log into it?

I don't know why it is called "The Portal" by some, but it is officially called the Candidate Information System (CIS).

At some time after the preliminary application is submitted for the next cycle, some applicants will receive what is called the ECandidate Packet Letter via EMail. This EMail will notify the applicant that their status has changed from "applicant" to "candidate" (an important distinction, which simply means that the applicant satisfies the absolute minimum qualifications to be considered an "official candidate"), and that they may continue their application in the CIS. The EMail gives the internet address to the CIS, the all-important candidate number, and the temporary password to log on to the system.

I know it has no bearing but if accepted I would try and go. My son went last summer and had an amazing experience. He still talks to the friends he met there and they all share questions and news about the application process. I feel it was a little taste of what it might be like if he was accepted. I know he said a few kids after that week , felt that the naval academy wasn’t for them. My son found out he was accepted through an email the beginning of February. Good luck to everyone!!

sfbc2024, at some point you will be notified that you are (or aren’t if minimum standards for even applying are not met) an official candidate. That’s when you will receive access to the CIS aka portal. You can’t look at it until you are a candidate. It has the same look as the NASS application. Different elements but similar “look”.

I was denied to all three seminars (AFASS, NASS, SLE), but was offered an appointment to USNA on 9-Jan-19.

2024’s: Do not worry if you don’t get into Summer Seminar. You can use my experience as proof that it has no bearing.
