Our DD received an appointment to CGAS in November, but she is trying to decide between opportunities. It is a lot for a 17 year old. Does the prep school help them study to retake the SAT? What if their scores don't improve?

They will study for and retake tests while in the CGAS program. They take a class specifically for SAT/ACT prep.

Has anyone else DS or DD got an appointment for CGAS?

My DD got conditional appointment to CGAS. Just waiting on DODmerb final.

When did she submit her application? My DS submitted in late October but still hasn't heard anything.
That was suppose to be DS. Sorry still trying to get use to acronyms. He applied in mid November for RA. Notified mid January that it was going under review and received decision Feb 8th. He is a recruited athlete. No LOA. Went to AIM this summer.

If you don't mind me asking, what opportunities is she deciding between? I will say, that if your DD is invested in serving in the Coast Guard as an officer, CGAS is a golden ticket not offered to many people. While I personally don't have any experience with the program, I have had several classmates who were prepsters. I'd be more than happy to try and answer any questions you or your daughter may have. As Alaskan said, they do take a SAT/ACT prep course. I took two prep courses in high school and both times my scores improved. The likelihood of the scores not improving, provided your daughter puts the effort in, is low in my opinion. It may not be a 100 point jump but even 10 points is an improvement. That being said, Admissions will be more concerned with her GPA and then her PFE score as the prep year is designed to prepare them for freshman year at the Academy by giving them a similar course load. There are minimums required for each in order to be offered an appointment for the incoming class.
