2020 Appointments

If his portal hasn't updated to reflect the Noms it means USNA hasn't received them yet or possibly processed them. MOCs have until January 31st to submit their slates. USNA won't be able to issue an appointment until they receive the official slate from the MOCs. He needs to line up a Plan B regardless. What if he breaks his wrist 2 weeks before I Day? I hate to bring things up like that but its a reality. A poster on here was DQ'd just prior to I Day for a wrist injury and had to wait another year. A poster on the West Point hurt his knee getting off the bus. It happens every year. Its why we all say bubble wrap. His Nom will get entered and his appointment should be coming soon.
Would it be too bold of me to call my MOC and ask him if he has submitted his slate, or when he is planning on submitting it?

That is your decision. I wouldn't, but that is me. Do what you think is best for you. What if they tell you they will submit it in a few weeks? Is that going to determine if you finish your application? It may seem like a waste, but just being on this forum should be enough for anyone to have a solid plan B. But hey that is me, and you do what is best for you. The MOC hasn't missed a deadline and are probably wrapping up tons of stuff prior to holidays. Also, even if they get it submitted, no guarantee USNA is going to do anything immediately with it. Remember they take vacations too. Your decision.

I see that your admissions portal changes when you are offered an appointment. But does the portal change if your rejection letter gets sent out? Or does it just remain the same "Complete pending review"? Scared that my portal won't change, and then I'll be surprised with a thin envelope in the mail.

Thank you

Thanks for your response. He has a plan C that is non military. Plan B is NROTC. If he is disqualified from the Naval Academy, does that also disqualify him for NROTC?

No it does no disqualify him for NROTC. First, if he gets a DQ from DODMERB and needs a waiver then each commissioning source evaluates them separately. So each SA and each branch of ROTC would evaluate if a waiver is granted.

Second, in case the bubble wrap pops prior to I day.... Example if a USNA candidate receives an appointment and gets hurt 2 months prior to I Day and can't report at the end June/early July they may still be healed in time and given a waiver before school starts in August/September for ROTC. It's why everyone recommends hanging onto Plan B's until they report for I Day. Tons of old threads on here about this topic and comes up annually on the board.

Can't remember if portal updates, but in last wars the TWE was the first (and maybe only) notification of the bad news. Also don't freak out at every envelope... For some reason USNA will send out mail with info such as area info sessions in the same envelope. When TWEs are released the board will light up on here from very disappointed folks.

Congrats!!!!! Did you get an email letting you know your portal updated?
No email for us...we just happened upon the update in the portal. Then, as suggest above, about one week later (today) she received the blue folder and formal appointment certificate in the U.S. Mail today. Nice looking folder/document.

Nice looking folder/document.

You know, Navy really needs to up its game on these appointment certificates. Really, compared to the West Point appointment folders (if you've never seen them, they are BEAUTIFUL and the saluatation begins "On behalf of the President of the United States of America"......hats off WP), they finish a distant second. (don't know what USAFA issues) and may even be a distant third.

For as classy an institution as USNA is, if they spent as much time and energy as they do every year in the design of those great over-the-top football uniforms they sport for the Army-Navy game, they'd really have something worthy of passing down. C'ommon guys, we can do a whole lot better than these.

Sydney C., if it's such a huge deal to you, accept the West Point one because of how gorgeous it is and let someone else who is eagerly looking for an appointment, regardless of how it looks, take advantage of it.

WOW! Seriously dude! If you got in already and want to trade, I'm still waiting, I will gladly take your certificate!! There are no other schools in the country who send a "certificate" other than the service academy's. Be proud of it, your parents tax dollars paid for that.

Honestly I wish they would go back to a TWE acceptance letter and quit spending money on the certificates. Believe it or not the folders and postage is pricey, the money could be spent on a lot of other things. The folders and stuff haven't always been done and trust me none of us cared if we had them or not. If a folder is your deciding factor in a SA might be time to re-evaluate things. Not to mention the sponsor, Under Armor, spends the time and money on designing the uniforms. More than likely Navy is presented with a few options and the equipment manager (NAAA employee, not govt employee) narrows them down for the coach and USNA to approve. Trust me, the time they spend on it is extemely small, the sponsor does all hard work, investment in design and money.

I din't say it was a big deal. I was merely making an observation on the design quality of the piece...nothing more intended. (I'm in the art and design business so its easy for me to take cheap shots like like I did) . NavyHoops make some great points on this as noted above but please don't interpret my comment as anything more than what it was meant...as a critique of a design.

Congrats on the appointments! I think for any deserving recipient, the feeling of joy and relief of having received an appointment to one of the best military institutions in the world is the best reward ever. Does it really matter how the certificate look? My DS is waiting for his certificate (of any design) in the mail.

Hello all! Congrats to those who have received their appointments. I'm still waiting for mine, but is there an estimate to when the decisions come out? The interview with my Congressman is in January so I haven't completed that portion of it, but I did finish my app the very beginning of this month. Thank you!
