So I know people have posted on the West Point and Coast Guard forums their class of 2020 profiles so I was just wondering if anyone has Navy's yet?

The initial class size Target for 2020 was set for 1,155. (same as Class of 2019 target)

The USNA had just over 17,000 applications started, which was about 1,000+ more than Class of 2019

The Naval Academy inducted 1,177 midshipmen into the Class of 2020. ( Class of 2019 = 1,191 )

2020’s plebe (freshmen) class (the smallest incoming Class size in decades) includes the largest number of women, making up 28% of the Class of 2020.

Based on last year's profile, the PDF version of the 2020 Class profile should be out between the end of July-early August (Before PPW)

DS is a plebe. The Superintendent gave the following information at the parents' brief on I-Day: 17,043 applications with every state and territory represented (Also said it was the first time in any service academy history that a nomination was given for every single congressional district), 1163 US and 17 international plebes, highest SAT scores in history (although didn't say what the scores were), 28 % women, 92% varsity athletes (72% team captains), and it was the most competitive admissions cycle ever.

Slightly less than 7% acceptance rate. At that parents meeting he also predicted that 2020 would be the first class with a 90% graduation rate. They are getting very close to this number. I hope he is right. It also shows that admissions is doing a good job picking kids that can make it. And perhaps that they are getting more and more good applicants. Of course some oldsters might venture the opinion that they are also going softer on them.

An interesting statistic you won't hear about on the outside is that 13 Plebes have DOR'd sine I-Day.

One plebe withdrew on I Day ... and it was an enlisted sailor. Signed the oath of office in the morning and decided to withdraw by the end of the day. It's tough. I see on Facebook several parents saying their kid opted out. They are obviously bright kids, so they will find their path.

Could you please tell us how you know this number please? Additionally if you could tell us if you were authorized to release it or discuss it publicly.

I don't get it. Go through all that to get an appointment and then not even give it a chance? Although, DS said he thought about it.

Class of '19 had 12 total at the end of Plebe Summer. '20 has surpassed that in the first two weeks. Perhaps it will taper.
Just curious, are you saying 20 plebes from class of 2020 already left? So the # can get higher by the end of summer? Wow, sad to hear some have left...I know they've worked so hard to get appointed, maybe USNA should make it harder for kids to leave during plebe summer? DS felt it was super hard at first but now over two weeks into Plebe summer he is doing very well, even joined the Drum & Bugle Band!

Drum and Bugle Corps, or "D and B," for short. Impress your plebe.

Looks like they have not updated for 2020 yet.

And, to pass the time, there are any number of D&B videos on YouTube from football game half-time shows, parades and other events.

...and it was the most competitive admissions cycle ever.

The academy always finds a way to tag each new class with some kind of "first" or superlative. It's the most diverse class ever. It's the class with the highest percentage of women ever admitted. It's the class with highest math scores. It's the class with the most blue eyes in academy history. It's the class with the most birthdays in October ever admitted.

It's been a goal of the Naval Academy to reach out to "underrepresented districts" for a long time. The sad fact is that, historically, some congressional districts simply do not produce competitive applicants. There are regions where the Naval Academy is not well known and/or that region is not particularly known for producing candidates with a strong enough academic foundation - mostly because of the educational system in place in that district. There are vacancies for which they can't even get 10 candidates to apply. They all get nominated because they're the only applicants. Then none of them get an appointment because not a single one of them is qualified.

I don't see how the class of 2020 is the "most competitive" when there were plenty of previous classes that had the number of applicants reach well over 20,000. Propaganda!

My class ('79) was told that we had the overall lowest academy GPA at graduation than any graduating class in the past two decades. Those were the days when they didn't feel the need to "blow sunshine up your a$$". Basically, we were being told, "You guys are a bunch of dolts." :)

I'm a Mid. This information isn't classified but I will not give identities. PS drop numbers are just known on the Yard.

13 have as of their two week mark. Yes and that number will continue to grow until they graduate.

Some realize right off the bat that this isn't for them. Others never did it for themselves in the first place. Sometimes it's best they get out early. Last year's leadership made it practically impossible for Plebes to drop during PS and usually those that displayed constant doubt ended up leaving during the Ac Year anyway.

The Academy has a lot of good people for the Plebes to talk to when they want to quit. A lot say they want to quit talk to some people and get back out there. Those that actually drop know it's not for them and the leadership know. Just how it is. This place is hard and truthfully it doesn't get better after PS. That's why you see people leaving up until the very end.

I was really hoping it gets better after Plebe Summer. Is it the academics, social, fitness, any bullying, etc. that makes Academy life hard? To avoid future regrets, I really hope these young men & women think long & hard before they exit the Academy!

My plebe told me he is in D and B Corps as well. I looked at an older YouTube video from plebe summer and counted about 60 plebes in the summer corps. Then I looked up the Brigade corps and it looks like 25 plebes will make it. Yikes! At least my plebe will have it this summer.
