2020 Hopefuls

My plebe has a drag (CVW candidate) coming today! Maybe its one of your candidates! If they are with a kid from VT that's mine! Good luck to all of you....I remember last year at this time. DS had everything done and submitted before school started. Had some extra work to do after DoDMerb results came back. Required some info from Dr. on wrist surgery and then required a waiver for concussions. Had plan B's done and in for early decision (Oct-Dec deadline) and he heard from USNA Dec 12 (waiver was automatically done and received by us the next day!). Sadly for me he waited until April 24 to decide!!! Talk about stressful!
Its a different ride for everyone but if its where they are meant to be, it will all work out! Thinking of all of you!

Thanks, I guess we need it. My son has been medicalley DQ'd for history of asthma after 13 years old. So we don't know if it will be waived. From what I understand in this forum, this is a tough one to get past :(.

Still we are going to the CVW, so we will have a better understanding about USNA, if in case he gets the waiver and then the nominations and of course the acceptance..:).

If he is meant to be in the academy, he will be.. :)

Informe, sorry to hear the DQ news. I would not let my DD even start the applications until we had a spirometry test done last January for her pre-12 asthma. We know a DQ is still possible, so we will just hope for the best too.

Going in I knew about the mandatory DQ, thanks to this forum. But my son wants to go USNA so I am supporting the best I can. If he does not get a waiver then regular colleges it is. I wish they will let us know sooner if it is definite DQ or there may be a waiver. He does not want to apply ED to any school just in case he gets in to USNA

I read a dq waiver,takes 90-120 days.
 
Does anybody know the best way to update my application? I recently obtained a few major leadership positions that I need to add but I already submitted all my stuff.
 
I am glad I found this site. My DD has everything done and is just waiting. She was invited to come for an Official Visit for track. She is very excited about this prospect.
I was glad to see the LOA post in this thread today. I was wondering how that notice may come. Congrats to your son.
 
My son just got this email. He is so happy. Now only need to get the nomination (all nom packets to go out on Tuesday). He is down now shadowing a Plebe.

"We are pleased to advise you that the Admissions Board has recommended you for admission to the United States Naval Academy with the Class of 2020. You are guaranteed an offer of appointment if your remaining admissions requirements are satisfactorily met. "

Yes. Passed the fitness assessment at SS in June, application essay and school letters about 1 mo ago, BGO 3 weeks ago. Only thing left is a nomination.
 
As far as a waiver... Be prepared for a long wait. Highly recommend you get strong plan B and C in place. Remember most appointments won't come out until Feb - March timeframe. Sometimes the DQ waiver requests won't go in until later. Some waivers can also take longer depending on the condition.
 
2020 Hopeful from Texas here -

Finished everything but CFA/DODMERB/BGO interview (I go to a boarding school, so I have a few more scheduling issues on my hands :P).

Sending in scores soon.

Don't know what else to do at this point, nomination apps are up and ready!
 
My son has panicked about not receiving an LOA. Devastated. He'll hang in there, and now he is working on his applications to other schools in earnest. He has a few schools flying him out to take tours and to apply for scholarships. He is planning to keep quiet about the fact that he is going to reapply to the academy next year.

There is absolutely no reason to panic! Although an LOA would be ideal for the sake of our peace of mind, more accepted candidates than
 
(accidentally hit reply..) not will NEVER see an LOA. Just keep moving forward and remember he is still in the running until a TWE comes. Prepare plan B, C, and D (which you sound like you are doing). I wouldn't mention about reapplying to the academy either but I give him props for wanting too. I know I am the same way! Good luck!

I can empathize with the feelings. My youngest son has USNA high on his list too this year. No time to panic as they probably have not even done a first pass on all the packets that were submitted over the summer yet. My oldest son didn't get an acceptance to USCGA until early May back in 2010. It can take a while for things to shake out. Set up multiple options and steel yourself for the wait. This will like take a few more months in the best of cases. :-)
