2020 Summer Leader Experience

Maybe things changed since 2017, but SLE didnt add to WCS but boys/girls state did.
My apologies to all for any confusion I've caused - you (and others who corrected me" are correct. I confirmed with Admissions that SLE does not add points to the WCS, but Boys/Girls State does.

For what it's worth, there are still advantages to SLE ... examples are:
- Candidates get to experience more of what it's like to be a cadet and decide if it's for them
- The Admissions Interview can be completed, so you're ahead of the game
- The CFA can be completed (but be ready!)
- It does give one an additional resume item and good talking point for MOC interviews.

Again, my apologies for the incorrect item I posted above - Go Army! And I sincerely hope we can kick this darn virus asap so '25 candidates can attend SLE, State, etc.!

Definitely worth while to go to SLE.

Definitely worthwhile if you can. Our Firstie at USMA went to both seminars at USMA and USAFA and felt WP was the place for him even though he had an older brother at USAFA. Also agree with a common sentiment that Boys State is more worthwhile for the admissions process...... both of our sons were asked about the Boys State experience in their Congressional nomination interviews, NADA about SLE or SLS.

My DS is still pending for SLE. He got accepted to the SS AFA first session, but nothing from WP yet.

My son also got into USAFA SS but is still waiting to hear about WP SLE. He will be attending Boys State also, I just really worry about how their applications will look with SAT's being cancelled, potential cancellations for Boys State, SS, and now missing his varsity spring sports captain season. Do we think the SA's will view the class of 2025 applications differently then in the past with all of the things they could be missing out on?

Everyone is in the same boat. No point in wringing one’s hands about it all. Rather than lamenting the disappearance of occasions to stand out — what sometimes seems like checking off boxes — the smart candidates will find opportunities amid this upheaval. You can begrudge the experience that got away, or you can demonstrate your leadership in a novel way. I believe when the dust settles, SAs will reward those who did the latter.

So, first week of April, I have heard zip from both USMA and USNA on the status of my application. Do I need to reach out? I am worried about reaching out with all that is going on in the world at the moment. I applied at the end of February and was hoping to hear back. I got an introductory email from an admissions officer recently but have not heard anything in the way of an acceptance or a rejection.

Thanks

I applied on day one, January 15th, and have yet to hear anything. You will hear something by April 15th, it's normal to have heard something already or to have not, you just gotta wait it out!

Haven’t heard back from SLE yet, but if i do not get accepted, is there other opportunities to spend the night, candidate visit weekend, etc? If so how do you get invited or sign up?

If you are not accepted for SLE, you can always go on a day visit.

During next year’s application cycle if you receive a LOE or an LOA you can go on an overnight visit.

Last year I was not selected for SLE, but I received an LOE in October and went on an overnight during this past February.
