Just checked wings and DS was awarded a Type 1 (the only type available this year) 4-year scholarship for AFROTC in general studies! We are beyond excited as we knew picking general studies was a risk. We are also so surprised and excited to get the results so early and with enough time to include them on early action/decision applications.

Good luck to all!

My daughter will be starting College in the fall of 2023. She is looking at an AF 4 year scholarship. Once she applies how soon was the interview? Seem like the interview is the biggest part of the process. Are you dependent on the interviewer's writing skills when they submit their results to the board?

I would say that the interview was scheduled within 2 weeks of completing the application. The interview is important and is weighted heavily. However, you don't really get a choice in interviewer, so there's no much use worrying about it!

My kid got his AF Type 1 last year also in October, nice to have it in the bag so early. Got to get into the school now to use it. My guy got waitlisted at MIT, the Detachment did try to get him in.

Just checked wings and also received the scholarship! Also very excited since I wasn’t expecting the results until the 4th. I just wanted to double check that I cannot formally accept the offer until I get into a college? Also, I saw some suggestions to email detachments at my first-choice college to inform them of this. Is that correct or will the detachments be automatically notified?

If I recall, you only have a limited time period to accept the scholarship. It isn't dependent upon admission. Most universities haven't sent acceptance, rejection, or wait list notices yet. Those are two separate issues. AFROTC scholarships are able to be used at any school which has a detachment.

Same here! Got my Type 1 in-hand but got waitlisted at Yale & Cornell, I landed at Boston University, all good.

Great news to all! Congrats!!

Let the Detachment know you want to attend that school and ask about their program and if they have some "Tips" for get admitted to the school. A few schools reached out to my kid and offered free room and board, but he had his schools on his list that he wanted to go to.
