We have been to two of these and built touring days on both sides of the game. This was re-scheduled from a COVID-cancelled date.

Some advance insights based on past experience:
- Quite a few mids go. They bunk at Trinity. Partly their money, partly alumni support via Alumni Assn.
- It’s a fairly short turnaround for the mids, crazy and exhausting, but they have a blast.
- Quite a few families go. What’s more fun than meeting up with your mid in Dublin. The Dubliners love this event.
- There will be travel packages with tix available through Alumni Assn, with or without extended travel, various hotels, etc.
- The pep rally on St. Stephen’s Green is a lot of fun. The USNA Band, D&B, Bill the Goat, Navy cheer, etc. The pubs are hopping with blue and gold garbed Navy and ND fans, as is every tourist site throughout the country
- We usually fly United from Newark to Shannon airport in the west, relatively short flight, small and easy to navigate airport, and rent a car there, then launch into our pre-game travel. Post-game, more travel and return via Shannon, clearing US customs there. Shannon duty-free is superb.
- Go Navy and Beat Notre Dame today!

Just posting this if you were thinking about 2023 adventures.

I'd like to make that trip. I flew into the Shannon airport once. It was a cloudy, misty day and when we dropped below the clouds on approach I saw the greenest ground I'd ever seen. We sat at the jet way to offload and pick up passengers. Our departure was delayed do to the US vice president's plane landing and taxiing to the terminal. The pilot in his airline pilot's voice announced for us to look out the port side windows if we wanted to see his plane. I looked out and saw a light blue and white jet with 'United States of America' painted on it and then went back to sleep.

Thanks for the nudge and insight. I have seen the "Touchdown Jesus" at Notre Dame but have never been to Ireland. Now, how do I work in a side trip to Italy or Keflavik in my planning? Decisions, decisions. At least I have two years to figure it out. Go Navy!

New to the forum. My husband is Class of 88. We went to the last game and had a great time with our kids. We've scrapped the Hawaii trip to go back.

Don't rent a car in Ireland. They drive on the wrong side of the road and the driver will never see anything while dodging traffic. But you must see and take a picture at Molly Malone Statue and a picture on Trinity College Green. :thumb: The Library is fantastic and the Book Of Kells viewing. Daughter and I kept going through the right hand door until we realised everything is left side.

Grandmother born Bally Blood Shannon, If you see anything go to the Cliffs Of Moher and the castle on the point and watch the waves crash on the coast

Wait - my mid said that the game was in Ireland but if I am reading right - ALL midshipman go? If so - holy cow - I am totally going - how fun would that be!!!

I don’t think so, as the new plebes would barely be wrapping up PS.
as always, though, just because something occurred in one way the last two times does not mean it cannot change.

We'd go just to root for Navy (any team) against ND but, should ND win, we'd never forgive ourselves for the wasted trip.

@VelveteenR - from 1899 to 2021 ND's football record is 849-315-33. Your strategy has you cheering for the loser the vast majority of the time. ;)

Wow, Velveteen. As an alum with a child there, that hurts. 🙂

Let me guess, MI or OSU fan.

Go Blue!

DH and I are alums. Still hurting that our son chose a lesser school. At least he didn’t consider ND. ;)

In the past, how are MIDS chosen/selected to go? And do they provide their own transportation? How much are they responsible for financially?

What a neat opportunity…

Chartered airliners.
Mid cost partly defrayed by alumni donations, etc.
If they are not on restriction or ac unsat, they can go. Booking and planning starts early.

I knew it!

I'm so sorry you didn't get into ND. (just kidding... I actually like Michigan. The rest of the big ten... Not so much)

Check Icelandic air.. I think they run (or pre-Covid ran ) packages with couple day layover in Kef for flights to and from Europe. A classmate did it a few years ago, and commented that it was deal you couldn't pass on. (Icelandic government probably subsidizes the cost of flight to attract tourism).

My Class ('85) put together a really good package for the last game in Ireland. I couldn't go because youngest daughter started college that week. Certainly on the radar for'23....break out the Guiness (for strength) and Jameson (for courage), I need to start training !
