2024 - and so it begins... timeframe?

So do not want to be "that person" but class of 2024 NROTC scholarship app is done and sent early April. Realistically, how long will it take before something happens with my app? Netfocus says its "waiting for a coordinator" so does that mean another month? Or several months? It has been difficult to locate a timeline anywhere. How soon do coordinators pull down completed apps and reach out?

Am I just too early? All info and list of schools was in my app...

Any info would be appreciative. I really want this badly.

thanks

Not sure how long before the next action but I would expect something to happen no later than September. In any case, you may not hear whether or not you were awarded a scholarship until mid-April of next year. You may hear earlier, or you may not. I assume you applied Navy option, especially given your screen name. I'm a Patrick fan myself.

Yes I sort of "borrowed" my screen name as my dad is Navy Ret. and of course, everyone's favorite Krabby Patty cashier.
So I do not have a coordinator yet or have had an interview or physical. I just submitted my initial application, that's all. I am just wondering how long it takes to even get all that started? I check NetFocus every day, maybe I shouldn't?

Again grateful for any timeline or suggestion of how long it will take to get a coordinator.
Thanks!

I don’t have insider knowledge it know the answer, but I wouldn’t personally expect anything to happen until end or May, first part of June. They are still buttoning up ‘23, current year is still is session. That’s what makes sense to me, I would tell my own to not worry until end of May.

It certainly doesn't hurt to check Netfocus each day. It's not like things will happen fast if you don't look. @justdoit19 is probably correct about May or June. My thought about September is that summer vacations are coming, which may or may not impact things. Yes, military folks have their own lives too. :D

Unless you applied to an Academy also, you will not complete a medical physical until after you are offered a scholarship. My DS applied to USNA in conjunction with NROTC so his medical physical was complete during the summer before the 1st Boards. You will need to complete the interview (had 2 separate interviews 1 for USNA and 1 for NROTC - they contacted us, but if you don't hear anything I would follow up around June) and the fitness tests (only certain persons can document this for you, our football coach was qualified and recorded all the times) and have those numbers submitted. You will also want to follow up with any teachers for their recommendations (I would do this before summer break just so they know to watch for it)..I know one of our requests didn't go through to the teacher and we had to have it resubmitted. Overall you are early, DS had everything submitted by end of April; had everything else completed over summer and heard back 1st Boards. Commend you for staying on top of this....the sooner your application is in front of the Boards, the more opportunities you have for it to be evaluated. Good luck.

Thanks @goirish1 - blame my parents for the "always early" habits. :)

Yes, I also applied for USNA at the same time so your explanation of timeframe with your son is very helpful. My football coach and counselor and math teacher are all expecting a recommendation letter prompt (does that come via email or mail? All of my teachers have asked me that and I don't know)
I am done with my junior year of high school in about 3 weeks and I am super-focused to get all of this done. I really want this NROTC or USNA appointment very badly.

thank you!

I'm a little foggy on the notification for the letters of recommendation. Oldest DS applied for NROTC in 2012 and youngest applied in 2016. If memory serves me correctly it was via email. There's also a form for the fitness test. You can complete that ahead of time and provide to your recruiter. You can also request a sealed copy of your transcripts and a separate Letter of Recommendation (sealed) from your teachers to provide to your recruiter so they could include in your package, that way you know nothing has been omitted.
Details of the fitness assessments can be found at the following link: http://www.nrotc.navy.mil/physical_requirements.html

Continue to follow up. I've seen posts in this forum where the ball was dropped by either the applicant or the recruiter. You are in charge of your own destiny so make sure you continuously go through the checklist on the NROTC scholarship site to make sure everything gets done.
Does your HS have a system such as Naviance that allows you to request teacher recommendations and where your transcripts are mailed. If so, I would input letter of recommendation requests and transcript requests into that system for both NROTC and USNA...that keeps it front and center so that all your documents get submitted.

Thanks @goirish1 - Thats very helpful. I am in Tennessee and I don't think my high school has that kind of recommendation system. I have spoken a few times to all 3 instructors and they have all indicated they would be happy to do it. But maybe getting it done and sealed is the best thing to do. Thank you!

In addition to putting in the contact info for letters of recommendation in the application, I had signed and sealed transcripts and letters given to me and brought them with me to my interview. It may be different this year because when I applied (Marine Option) I had my physical and interview conducted at the main RS of my area by the XO of the station, so I handed in my letters and transcript along with the paper components of the application (lots of waivers) that your coordinator should give you soon. I had been working with enlisted recruiters for a couple years before I started the application so they were a great help. I understand how frustrating Netfocus can be but keep in mind it didn't update for my until two months after I had been told I was selected so it's not really your best resource. I would suggest reaching out to local enlisted Navy recruiters and seeing if they can give you any info or help you along (just don't let them talk you into enlisting, remember your goal). Marine timeline may be different since we only had two boards but I finished my online application around August, had my interview in mid October, and was notified in late December. Hope this helps.

Thanks again for all of the advice, these forums are amazing. I wanted to update that I got my USNA "Official Candidate" letter 2 days ago and I am pretty excited. Is it pretty common to be "2-track" between NROTC and USNA or will I have to choose now which one to pursue? Hoping I can keep chasing both - but I figured I would ask.
thanks!

Being “2-track” is highly recommended and, really, the standard because there is very little reason why one would want to do only one or the other since both would help you achieve your desired endstate which is, presumably, to be an Ensign (or 2LT).
