2025 Job Drops

Team USAFA,

Last night, we unexpectedly lost a teammate…Cadet 4th Class Avery Koonce of Cadet Squadron 38. She was found unconscious in her dormitory Wednesday night. Academy first responders were called and attempted life saving measures, which were unsuccessful. Her cause of death is under investigation.

While only with us for a short time, Avery positively impacted her unit, her intercollegiate team, and her class – her loss will be felt across the Academy. Avery was from Taylor, Texas, a member of the Class of 2028, and an athlete on our USAFA Track and Field team with a passion for sprinting.

Please look out for one another as we navigate this loss. Our team is focused on providing support to Avery’s family, Cadet Squadron 38, the Track and Field team, and all of you. A full complement of support services including Academy chaplains, mental health professionals, leaders, and others are in place should you need them for additional support. In our grief, we must come together as a team and support each other.

Here’s a toast…

Very Respectfully

Tony

I hope they do it Wednesday then. I know when it was planned last week they were doing the SOC so that every cadet would be able to participate.

I wish that they would just put a date on the calendar. The other SA’s and ROTC have already completed this. I don’t know whether it’s the Cadets or parents that are biting their nails more.

Agreed. Part of the academic calendar. It's not like job drops are a surprise. It does, however, show the cadets how little the AF thinks of them. A lesson they will not forget.

My nails are already bitten off!

Friday is the best time honestly and they can definitely enjoy their time after now. I never understood last week with it being in Thursday knowing so many wouldn’t be engaged in class the following day.

One thing I read is a Thursday release was followed by Friday noon meal formation as though that's a good way to come together as a squad, check in with everyone and make sure everyone is good before the weekend. Have no idea if this is just speculation, but could make sense.

Football, band, golf & some tennis all gone on Friday. Super disappointed my DS will miss out on this event. It is what it is…

DS is in Texas for the funeral service. He says his squadron (38) job drop is Friday.
