Hey all, I'm filling out my nomination applications and Honorable Kirsten Gillibrand asks for a first and second choice academy. Honorable Schumer asks for only one academy that I am "Interested in attending". Will my nomination only work for the academies I select? @Capt MJ , you adressed this in my last post but now I am not sure after only seeing the option to pick 1 or 2 academies for Gillibrand and Schumer

If you are placed on a slate with a nom, that slate is dedicated to 1 academy. If you applied to the 4 academies that require noms, you still would only have 1 nom for the academy slate you were placed on. You would not have a nom from that source for the other 3 academies.

What Schumer is telling you: I don’t duplicate noms to the same candidate for various academies. Pick one, and my team will consider you for a nom to that slate. If you don’t make that slate, you have no nom from me.
What Gillibrand is telling you: I am willing to evaluate you for two slates, one each for two academies. Rank your choices. What you don’t know is whether her policy is just 1 nom per candidate and that’s it, or whether she is willing to give you a nom on both slates, should her team recommend that. You also don’t know if she collaborates with Schumer, and has agreed to if he gives you a nom to one SA, she will not duplicate that, or vice versa. That’s something her staff knows, unless she has it on her website. You could come out of her process with two noms, one to each academy, just 1 nom to 1 academy, or no noms at all.

I am a proponent of being consistent in your rankings.

Do you receive a Nom then an Appt ? Or is it Appt then a Nom? I can't find it anywhere. Our MOCs don't announce until late December or early January.

A nom is required before an offer of appointment to a fully qualified applicant. It’s another block to check.

I believe that LOAs don't guarantee a NOM, but do NOMs guarantee an appt?
In a word, NO. Each member of congress is able to NOMINATE up to 10 candidates for each slot that they have allotted to them.
Assuming that all 10 are deemed qualified academically and physically, it COULD mean that one gets in and nine (who all have nominations) do not get in.

This is true, nominations do NOT guarantee an appointment. Last year the majority of applicants in our district did not receive a nomination. Of those that did receive a nomination, only 1-3 received an appointment off each of the USAFA, USNA, and USMA slates. We're not even the most competitive district either.

When do nominations usually come out? December/January? or it is all random?

Hello all,

I know this is a specific question, but does anyone else from NC know when Senators Burr and Tillis typically have their nomination interviews? A

Tillis is historically in late November. Burr is normally in early January. DS didn't get an email from Burr's office to schedule the interview until the week between Christmas and New Year's.

Thanks for your response. I have everything in, so it's a waiting game now...

I live in Pennsylvania and have submitted my nomination applications to my two senators. I, luckily, have interviews with both of them. How many people are usually scheduled for interviews, in PA or otherwise? I just mainly want to know if I am now competing against 1,000 others or 100. Thank you, and good luck to all the other applicants! (And if it helps, I am only applying for a USAFA nomination, and I am female.)

In Virginia, one senator does not interview and the other one interviews around 10% of applicants (last year his panel interviewed around 60). Our congressman interviewed everyone that had a complete application. Each applicant has to pick a primary service academy and they speak to each other so an applicant will not receive a nomination from more than one source.

both Casey & Toomey will interview all candidates that submit complete applications. So that will be quite a few. However, they each have 4 seperate panels that run simultaneously on interview days. So if USAFA was your choice, you will interview with the USAFA panel.

There are more than 4000 USAFA applicants nation wide that transitioned to DODMERB phase. Based on this I would assume it is somewhere in the order of 100-200. Good Luck!

Any feedback from the Senator M. Rubio Nom interviews?
They supposed to finish for USMA and USAFA and today for USNA.
Thanks.
