2027 State Nominations Thread

A post for the Oklahoma applicants in future years..... (I spent so much time just searching for something about OK nomination I wanted to leave a bread crumb for future Mom's (or Dad's or Applicants) to find, lol)

My DS received a letter today alerting him of his Nom from Inhofe, it also showed in his portal today. He has a nomination in his portal that we can only assume is from Lankford, no contact from Senator office. He also has a nomination from Congress. Mullin in his portal as of today, no letter from Congress. Office. Also has a presidential nomination in his portal, reflecting his father's years of service.

Today is Dec 5, 2022.

I hope this helps some future applicant from Oklahoma!

DD just received notice of virtual interview with Sen Ossoff (Ga) scheduled for tues, and she also has in- person interview with our district representative’s panel this weekend . Warnock’s office sent virtual twe … no interview .
My daughter received the Ossoff request today too. Had Warnock scheduled for Dec 17, but last week received a nomination from GA-9, so these are unnecessary.

No potential nomination is unnecessary. Applicants are encouraged to apply for all nominations they are eligible for.
Having more than one nom gives admissions flexibility as they build the class.

It is always recommended to keep competing for additional nominations you are eligible for.

Piling on to @Heatherg21 - once you get a nom, do not stop and think you are done.

The DoD SAs encourage candidates to apply for all noms for which they are eligible. See screenshots of Nominations sections on USMA, USAFA and ISNA websites. As noted above, though it technically only takes 1 nom to fulfill the requirement, if the SA wants to offer an appointment, it’s great to have multiple noms to give them more flexibility as to which nom source to charge an appointment.

Got my interviews with both senators and representative done last week. Just need to hear back from them in early January. Anyone else from Louisiana here that finished their interviews?

Same exact scenario in GA… DS’s BGO told him not necessary, up to him. A nom is a nom. I just worry about not going to the others because although he got the call and official letter regarding nom from MOC, it’s still not showing on portal.

A nom is a nom. But three noms are better than one. Four is better than three. Plenty of applicants with a nomination will not receive an appointment. There simply are not enough seats at the table each cycle for the amazing candidates.

Another aspect - if your DS does not pursue the other noms and backs out of the interviews, and finds himself re-applying next year, how will that look to those offices? Every year, fully qualified candidates with noms do not get offered an appointment; there is not enough room in the class. Every year, a good number of the incoming class are college re-applicants, who must apply for noms once again for the new cycle.

The BGOs are dedicated people who invest much personal time in serving USNA; they are volunteers. The BGO left the decision in your DS’ hands, knowing what USNA advises on its website.

If your DS needs any help to determine go/not go after other noms (his competitors are…), he should contact the primary source, USNA Admissions, and ask for guidance. He can pop up in the near-daily live chat by clicking the chat widget on the Admissions home page, with his candidate number handy.

His BGO is correct. It IS up to him. And USNA admissions recommends to go for all available to a candidate.

What if the Nom he received is a source that presents a slate that contains a fully qualified Principal nominee, not your son, who will accept. If your son is also on another slate (or two), he has options to compete to win those slate. If he isn’t on the slates? He cannot compete. And if he isn’t the principal on the one he is on? You get the picture.

Just one scenario of many. And (only) one example of why it’s recommend to compete for all you can. Giving the SA greater flexibility.

DS received a nomination to USAFA from Rep Davidson (OH 8th District) today!! Don't know yet about Sen Brown or Sen Portman (their boards said they'll compare lists this month). Now more waiting for hopefully an appointment!

What does it mean when the Congressman’s office tells you they have submitted your application for a nomination to a certain academy?

Welcome new member of just a few days!

It seems a little garbled, because you presumably submitted an application to them, and “they have submitted your application for a nomination to a certain academy,” but let’s hope they meant they submitted your name on a slate (list) of up to 20 candidates, and that means you have a nomination.

If you have a nomination, that means you have just met one of the required conditions to be eligible for an appointment. If the SA finds you fully qualified (medical/DoDMERB, physical/CFA,academic/all the other evaluated elements), plus you have a nomination, you are in the group of candidates who can be offered an appointment. There will always be more fully qualified applicants with noms than there are seats in the class, but you have a shot.

Keep an eye n your portal to see if a nom pops up.

Thank you! DS has a LOA to an academy and the nomination is being submitted to an academy that he didnt even apply for. We will see how it works out.

For clarification, are you saying your DS has an LOA to an academy he didn’t apply for? Or a LOA to one academy, and a nomination to another academy he didn’t apply for. That part isn’t clear in your post.

He has an LOA pending a nomination to the academy he applied for and he is receiving a nomination to a different academy.
