2027 State Nominations Thread

Has anyone heard from Senator Warren, Senator Markey, or Rep. Trahan (MA)? I have been interviewed by the first two but have yet to hear anything :/ Nothing at all from Trahan

We received a letter from Mark Kelly (AZ) yesterday receiving my daughter's nomination. We checked the USMMA portal last Friday and it had the nomination the day it processed and she was offered an appointment. She accepted and the portal says accepted on it now.

Does anyone know if we will receive the packet I have heard about?

Congrats! My DS is a senior at USMMA now and he received his packet a couple of weeks after accepting his appointment. Get ready for all of the exciting things ahead. USMMA is a small community and their parents are great! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Oh, and get involved in your state parents' association if they have one. Did you know Senator Kelly is a USMMA grad?

My DD got rejected email today from Sen. Gillibrand in NY for USNA. She had an LOA too. She is a bit disappointed but she still has Schummer to wait on for USNA.

Is anyone on this thread from Minnesota and if so, any word from Senators Klobuchar or Smith?

Congrats! The USMMA has a great group of people in AZ. When DS was trying to make his final decision, the parent group hosted a really nice luncheon in Phoenix and we were able to mingle with parents, alumni, and current attendees and have lots of questions asked and answered. The appointment certificate arrived a few weeks after he saw the appointment in his portal.

I interviewed with Senator Markey and Rep. Clark (MA-05). Clark's office told me that I should expect a notification by the end of this week and Markey's office told me to expect something by the end of January. Looks like we got a little more waiting to do. I wish you the best of luck!

My DS got the same letter from Kelly yesterday. DS was previously nominated by our congresswoman, that nomination came via email. Included in that email was information about a USMMA parents association in AZ with an invite to a get together with current and past graduates of KP later this month in Phoenix. It welcomes parents as well. We are definitely going to get more information. You can message me or contact the state rep for more information. Congratulations to your DD for nomination and appointment! 1673525832530.png

If this year is anything like last year, both senators sent their nominations the last week in January. I believe my daughters nominations showed up in her portal on Jan 28th or so.

Hopefulmominv….I live in VA and had the opportunity to be with a member of Sen. Kaine’ s USNA Nominations Board a week or so ago. This year they had significantly more applications to service academies than last year (i Think more than 600+ total.) Competition was fierce And they try to provide for geographic representation as well. Keep the faith! As you know Virginia is super competitive and most MOCs try not to duplicate nomination.

USMMA is a great alternative and might even be a blessing in disguise depending on her military area of interest. The USCG license and ability to actually command a large ship is great plus for an ensign SWO, the internship opportunities for flight from USMMA are great, and then number of available slots for flight are sometimes easier than USNA, and she would have lots of options graduating from USMMA. If USNA does not come through this cycle, please try to have her visit (if she has not already) USMMA and meet with the Navy liaison there before making a final decision. Congratulations to her for the one nomination and there is still time for USNA. You are not out till the academy sends that letter and many things can happen in the early year shuffle.
MarTac, Thank you so much! My DD's first choice has been the USNA, but she is most definitely excited about the USMMA nomination! Sometimes second choices are actually blessings in disguise. Ironically, the swim coach reached out to her last month and seems interested so we're going to KP next weekend for an overnight visit. I have a gut feeling my DD's second choice will become first choice! :)

It is a great school and has produced many military officers. It opens the widest selection of military career choices. Make sure she checks out the Sea Year opportunities on Naval vessels. There are also flight internships in summers. Also, the USCG license is worth $ in civilian world and highly respected by Naval SWOs. Good luck to her!

Has anyone received a nomination from CA-17 (Rep. Khanna) yet?
No. There was an email before the Holidays stating they have made their decision and will inform the candidates in January. Not sure why it takes weeks to send an email once decision is made, but yet another exercise in patience ig.
