2027 State Nominations Thread

Thank you! DS has a LOA to an academy and the nomination is being submitted to an academy that he didnt even apply for. We will see how it works out.
Oh - this presents challenges, thank you for clarifying.

If he has a nom for a SA to which he didn’t apply, he will not be considered there unless he scrambles to get an application in, if he wants to. This happens every year. The DoDMERB is presumably done, and the SA the CFA has been sent to can forward it to the SA being applied to.

For the SA he has an LOA to and no nom, there is a definite possibility he will not be offered an appointment. Every year, there are fully qualified candidates with LOAs and no noms who are not offered an appointment. Be sure he has applied for the VP nom. The SA has a few noms they control themselves, but they are used sparingly and precisely.

Paging @IronmanDaremo to share your journey in the cycle that happened to your son, if you wish.

For clarification, are you saying your DS has an LOA to an academy he didn’t apply for? Or a LOA to one academy, and a nomination to another academy he didn’t apply for. That part isn’t clear in your post.
He has an LOA pending a nomination to the academy he applied for and he is receiving a nomination to a different academy

we are still waiting for senator nominations, fingers are crossed 🙏🏼

Can anyone share how long it has taken for noms to show in portal, I am sure it varies! DS has LOA and letter from MOC officially saying he got the nom (two weeks ago). Nom was only condition of LOA. Wondering if he should go to Senator interviews this weekend.

Yes, go to interviews. This is often discussed here and candidates should keep working for noms until they are appointed.

Hi, I have received nominations to USMA, USNA, and USAFA. My senatorial nom to USNA mentioned that my senator would be using a "competitive method of nomination" and that my name would be placed in an exclusive pool of other nominees with the most qualified earning appointments. My other nominations did not mention a method, so what does this mean? How is this different from other nomination methods? I have heard of MOCs submitting ten individuals without preference to an academy, but I have also heard that some pick a primary nominee out of those ten.

Competitive means they submitted an unranked slate and the Academies will choose the "winner" of the slate. I believe that is the most common method of submitting slates. There are lots of posts on here about the different types of slates. The fact that the other MOC didn't tell you what method they used just means, they didn't tell you. That's all. Again, most submit competitive, but they could have chosen to submit a primary and unranked or a completely ranked slate. It isn't something you can control, so I wouldn't put too much thought into trying to read into it.
Congratulations on your nominations!

Go re-read the pinned post at the top of the nominations forum. Senators and Representatives have a choice of a few different formats to submit up to 20 names on their slate (list). How they arrive at those names, interviews, application materials, requested material, etc., is up to thrm.

I haven't received anything from Feinstein; how did she reach out to those that have already completed interviews?

On my USNA portal, it shows that I received a congressional nomination. Does this mean that I received a nomination or is it just a way to show to the academy that I did my interviews??

I think it means you received a nomination. They don’t know when your interviews are. Congratulations!!!

Her office sent an email with interview times. Another poster thought that Padilla and Feinstein coordinate, which makes sense. D had interview with Feinstein, but no word from Padilla.

My son's portal showed that and then 2 days later he got the phone call from the MOC. Congrats!

Was coming on here to say the same thing. DD had interview with Feinstein (and contacted via email) but nothing from Padilla. Glad that you replied to this, @HKane, and your explanation makes sense. Although @CoffeeMama has both interviews going on. So could be multiple explanations, so I guess we are back to being patient and hopeful...

There may or may not be logic behind these things. What I know for certain is that each of you applicants (and your parents) are incredible humans and restore my faith in humanity on a daily basis. I am so grateful for you and keeping my fingers and toes crossed.

Agree! I've learned so much from this forum and appreciate all of the info/advice people give here. I'm hoping for the best for all of the candidates!
