2027 State Nominations Thread

Hi there. DD nomination from LBR arrived in USNA portal. Same email received on Monday from LBR office.
Congrats! Had a nomination DEAL3 hit DD’s West Point portal. I am thinking this is LBR’s. DD’s USNA has been slow updating - they had sent her DoDMERB info on 9/23 - the same day the system crashed and it was stuck in the ether until Thanksgiving…

Same here…is that a definite “not nominated”?
For our DS, yes-TWE from our Congressman and Cornyn and Cruz. I don’t think that he can compete for VP nom if he can’t get a senatorial nom. He will regroup and probably make a plan to improve and reapply next year. Pressing forward…

DS received a second nomination to USAFA in today's mail, this one from Sen Portman (R-OH)!! First one was from Rep Davidson. Are there any statistics on how to quantify how two nominations vs one may improve odds of receiving an offer of appointment?

IF they wish to offer an appointment, the SAs have more flexibility as to what nom source to charge an appointment to, in other words, the candidate has another competitive bucket to compete in.

No way to calculate odds. Someone might have 2 Senator, 1 Rep nom, Presidential and JROTC noms, and not be offered an appointment. Someone could have 1 nom and be offered an appointment. Someone could have no noms, but be given the VP nom by the SA and offered the appointment.

Every year, fully qualified candidates with nom(s) are not offered appointments. There are more candidates than there are seats in the class.

I just want to take a minute on this Christmas Eve and thank every candidate, no matter what academy you have or are applying to. Whether you have secured a nomination and are now in the wait to see if you are offered an appointment, or if you were unsuccessful this round and will try again or seek a commission through another nominating source ….. Thank You!

You are showing a willingness to step forward and serve in our nation’s military while many other either will not, or are not so qualified. As one who has served, and now has one son deployed and two others at service academies I truly appreciate - as I am sure many other on the forum do - your desire to serve and choice of this path. You are willing to take on the hard work and commitment to lead tomorrow’s military and I am so moved by both the caliber of young men and women that seek to enter today’s service academies and their commitment to keep America safe and secure through a strong military, which is still the best assurance of peace in the future.

If you didn’t get that nomination or are not successful in obtaining that offer of appointment please keep working towards your goal and try again or seek a commission through another route. The United States military needs you - your intelligence, your perseverance, your technical skills, and your desire to serve! Thank you so much!

Thank you for this wonderful message! My daughter appreciated reading it!

I didn’t want to ruin my DD’s Christmas so I almost didn’t give her the TWE received in the mail yesterday. Happy to share that Congressman Connolly’s office sent her a nomination to the USMMA! DD is still hoping Kaine’s office will nominate her for an appointment to the USNA but she’s thrilled about Connolly’s nomination!

Hopefulmominv….I live in VA and had the opportunity to be with a member of Sen. Kaine’ s USNA Nominations Board a week or so ago. This year they had significantly more applications to service academies than last year (i Think more than 600+ total.) Competition was fierce And they try to provide for geographic representation as well. Keep the faith! As you know Virginia is super competitive and most MOCs try not to duplicate nomination.

USMMA is a great alternative and might even be a blessing in disguise depending on her military area of interest. The USCG license and ability to actually command a large ship is great plus for an ensign SWO, the internship opportunities for flight from USMMA are great, and then number of available slots for flight are sometimes easier than USNA, and she would have lots of options graduating from USMMA. If USNA does not come through this cycle, please try to have her visit (if she has not already) USMMA and meet with the Navy liaison there before making a final decision. Congratulations to her for the one nomination and there is still time for USNA. You are not out till the academy sends that letter and many things can happen in the early year shuffle.
