As senior year is starting to wind down and the stress/excitement/anxiety about IDay begins to brew, I thought I’d share some thoughts and tips that I would have appreciated as a plebe-to-be.

Firstly, try your hardest to be present in all of the senior year activities. It’s easy to stress and go down rabbit holes about what your life will be like come IDay, but your life will never be the same as it is right now. Going for drives with your friends, attending banquets, and just being with your family are things that you will reminisce about when you’re staring at the ceiling in your rack. Now, onto some tips.

Things I brought: my own running shoes, some pre addressed letters/stickers with addresses, some pictures

Things I had mailed (if possible,): my own toiletries, high calorie snacks, cough drops

Pack as light as possible. You will be hauling two santa bags (with no straps or handles) that probably weigh a combined 200lbs. I literally still use half of the issued stuff to this day. They will give you PLENTY. Also, your detailers are human, if you run out of something necessary (soap, shampoo, the issued medicine,) they will find more for you.

My advice for the summer as a whole is TO HAVE FUN. Plebe summer is FUN in a weird way. This is probably the only time you’ll be with your entire class. You’ll look back at the memories almost daily, so have fun, have a sense of humor, and be a good dude. The first impression you leave during the summer WILL carry into the ac year. That being said, no one expects you to be a physical stud or know all of the rates on the first day. However, work as hard as you can, don't chit-surf or stay SIQ the entire time, and don’t act like you’re superior to your classmates because, I guarantee, you are not.

The summer goes by incredibly fast. There will be beautiful moments that you wish someone would’ve recorded. There will be times where you will convince yourself that you’re going to DOR. Don’t. Stick it out so you can hear that “Fall Out” at NMF on parents weekend. There is nothing quite like it. The first night will be the worst, me and my old roommates still laugh about us laying in complete silence, all of our stuff all over the place, no sheets, unbrushed teeth, and on a pillow that was still in the bag. After the first 10 days it will become your new normal and you’ll start to feel comfortable.

Hit me with questions if y’all have any! Enjoy and goodluck!

Hi! I just got accepted at the end of February. Really looking forward to it. This was really helpful, but I have to ask: what was your favorite and what was your least favorite part of the summer?

My favorite was all of the "summer camp" activities (sailing, shooting, O/E course, damage control.) Think things you see on the Youtube videos

Some of my least favorites: getting woken up in the morning, being sweaty/hot all the time, being disconnected from current events/the real world

You'll find that a lot of the summer is perceived differently by different people. Some of the things I found the most fun, others hated, and vise-versa. There will be moments that stand out in particular as being "locked off," or more relaxed. Things like bearing contests, walking back from drill at night, or detailers calling people out to sing cadence are small moments at the time, but end up being your favorite memories.
