I’m curious about what my chances are to get another nomination for C/O 2023 this Winter when I received a senatorial nomination to WP for 2022, but got denied. Is there a certain way that the selection process will go for me since I received a nomination before? Or do I have nothing to worry about?

The process will not differ in any fundamental way your second time around. You will still need to submit the same information- in addition to whatever new necessary information- and attend interviews again. Some MOCs will have kept some of your information and it will not be necessary to resubmitted it. Theoretically, your chances should not substantially change due to this being your second year applying. However, it will show persistence and a true desire, so that may help your chances. Conversely, nomination boards may see not being admitted the first time around as a predictor of not being admitted now, but I wouldn't worry about that.

I would recommend emphasizing how you have worked to improve the weaknesses in your file from last time around and how not being admitted hardened your resolve. Good luck to you, and look at the numerous threads detailing what to do to maximize your chances when applying a second time if you haven't yet.

On my DS's first try, he got the nom from our congressman, but no interviews w/ others. On his second try, he got senator interviews and congressional. He ended up w/ 2 noms (congressman and ROTC). If they liked you well enough the first time, they'll likely love you for your tenacity. Give them more reasons to love you.

There are an awful lot of folks on here who talk about getting in on the second try so what you are talking about is not unprecedented. See what you can do to strengthen your application and then do it. Were you 3Q but not admitted? If so, figure out what you can do to add a few more points to your WCS. Maybe a few more pull ups or knock some time off your mile. If you were a bit low in one of the SAT/ACT areas, bust your butt to get that part higher. Get in school and do a great job right now with your academics.

Whatever it is you need to do to make your application stronger, do not hesitate to talk about what you learned from the process and how you applied that learning in your essays. It will be a help.

Thank you so much for the advice! My application was perfect in every way, but my CFA scores weren’t strong enough. I got a personal phone call telling me so.

Then you should be fine as long as you do your best to get all As and Bs mostly As in the fall and raise your CFA running time below 8 minutes. It’s probably your running time that set you back. And or pushups and sit ups. Aim for below 7 minutes on the mile run. Run everyday little by little escalate the distance to 1.5 miles and try to run under 10 minutes on 1.5. Min time on 1.5 is 10:30. Good luck! You can do this!

If you received a nomination the first time, I would reason that it will not be substantially more difficult to get another one. Along with others above, I think it could work in your favor and show dedication and commitment.
