2nd Scholarship Board Results published (2/8/17)

My daughter received a 4yr to her 2,3 and 4 schools but not her #1 school. She has also received a 3yr AFROTC. She wants to try to transfer her AROTC to her #1 school. Can she accept both scholarships so that if her transfer doesn't get approved she can go with the other branch?

Yes.

I was under the impression that an AFROTC Scholarship was good at any school that has an AFROTC Detachment, in other words the AF Scholarships are not school dependent.

I agree. I told him it was his choice and he has my support but I would love to keep him close (he's my 3rd to leave) He accepted the acceptance to the Colorado School of Mines last night and I am thrilled for him!

My son is an MSIVat CU Boulder, PM me if you have any questions on the school.

Does anyone have an experience with either Miami-OH or Michigan Tech's Army ROTC battalions? DS trying to choose. He's a EE major and waiting on VaTech admissions decision. I have learned Miami’s AROTC battalion is a crosstown affiliate of Xavier University in Cincinnati's AROTC battalion. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks

Those offered a 2YR ECP scholarship are projected to Fall below the 3/4 YR OML cut lines. If she turns down the ECP, it will not be offered again at the 3rd Board. She could be offered a 3YR after the third board, but it is probably not likely.

our son was offered ECP on the 1st board and declined it. His application status still says "boarded". does he have a shot on the 3rd board. getting nervous.

He has a shot at a 3YR, however it is unlikely. It mostly depends on where he fell on the OML, and the quality of the new applicants that will be boarded in MAR.

if he don't get an offer on the 3rd board, do we get his OML score?

You will not be informed of his OML score. I'm not sure what you'd need that information for anyway. If he doesn't get a scholarship, he can still participate in ROTC and commission. If you need additional funding for school, he can also check out the SMP program. If, after the 3rd board, he doesn't receive a scholarship, have him contact the ROO at his preferred school to talk about his options. Good luck!

I am not very familiar with the whole ECP thing other than what I have read on some of these boards. My question is... for those applicants who have NOT receive a scholarship offer and have NOT receive an ECP either... does that mean that they are either 1) above the projected OML cut line so the chances are improved that a scholarship would be awarded in round 3... or 2) so far below the line or for whatever reason an undesirable candidate who won't get a scholarship no matter what? I believe (even looking at it objectively, and not as a hopeful parent) that my son has a very competitive packet. We are anxiously waiting on round 3 and all of the ECP talk today has brought these questions up in my mind. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

NOTE: I of course know that there are no "for sure answers" or guarantees on anything... just trying to understand our level of hope at the point. :)

Yes, your son falls in one of the two categories that you described. However, if someone does not earn a scholarship, it does not mean that they are undesirable. In fact a lot of applicants who do not earn a scholarship from the National Selection Process, earn a campus based scholarship during their freshman or sophomore year of college. In fact more scholarships are given to college students than to high school students. Good luck on the 3rd board selections. There will probably be around 800-1000 scholarships offered after the 3rd board.

Thank you. I think that my use of... "undesirable"... was a poor choice of words. I agree with your explanation about students who join without scholarships. He is planning to join ROTC next fall regardless of the scholarship receipt now, and will work toward a 2/3 year scholarship once enrolled. Hopefully and prayerfully waiting on round 3. :)
