My DS, who received an LOA in September, just received his nomination letter from our senator, and just had his status on the portal changed to qualified. Now what? Will he have to wait until March/April to get the appointment or will that come before? Trying to be patient, but that's easier said than done. Thanks.

If trends of the last two years continue, he should receive his appointment in the first wave, late January to early February, at the latest.

I don't know about recruited athletes. But for the past couple of years, the first wave of appointments went out mid-Jan to early-Feb. Included in the first wave were LOA recipients, Principal nominees, and "clear vacancy winners."

As Tug Boat would say - make sure plan B is solid! However - knowing how long the journey is to get this far in the process (it is very easy to say but not to do) be patient!

Your DS looks to be in great shape to receive his appointment but know whatever happens - your DS has demonstrated his ability to be successful whatever path he takes! Also know there are a lot of parents out there whose DS/DD is still working through their nomination process, waiting to see if medical waivers are going to be secured, who have not received an LOA/LOE who are on the bubble or who will be selected for prep school or who may not hear final word till April or May!

So with all that - enjoy as best you can these next few months with your DS, try not to start the "daily mailbox stalk" too early and as nerve racking as it is - being a Green Bay fan I will channel Aaron Rogers - RELAX! LOL!

Best of luck to you and your DS! JWP

Hahaha Thanks for the vote JWP!! How is your Cadet doing? PM me

That is very exciting! I also received an LOA in September and just found out about my nomination as well. Congrats to your DS, and maybe we'll meet in June!

My DS who is a recruited athlete and had an LOA received his offer a couple of days after his nomination was posted and application was complete. He accepted his offer on Dec. 4th and received his BFE. Good Luck!

Congrats! That is wonderful. What a great accomplishment. This is truly a roller coaster .
Did the appointment offer show up on his portal first and then in the mail or did the MOC call?
Again, congrats to you all.

I would also like to know how long it would take for appointment for someone with LOA + nomination. Like Rugby said, is it a portal update or a BFE?

The MOC will be given an opportunity to call you first. Whether they do or not is entirely up to the MOC. USMA waits something like 72 hours then mails the BFE. Usually, you'll get the BFE before the portal updates. Again, this is the typical scenario. There are always exceptions when Congress and the US Mail play a part.

I think that since it is the holidays and admissions has time off that people who got their noms with their LOA about mid December will have a slight delay because mail is off and on as well as admissions will be slightly behind after their break

For my son his portal was updated with the offer and then he received his BFE. His coach had told him to check mail and portal daily.

I'm a candidate for the class of 2020 and I went on the diversity overnight visit and received an LOA. I passed the CFA and Medical exam. Waiting on my nomination which the MOC said I will be covered for Army. Also need to finish that new evaluation from the PE teacher which will be done soon. Does this mean I am done and should expect an appointment when those are finished?

Yes, pending you complete all of the required steps, you should receive your appointment. I am in the same boat as you, LOA/3Q/nominated. Now I am just waiting to hear from USMA in January!

So I am a senior at Mississippi State, a cadet in the ROTC program, and a member of the Mississippi National Guard. I have completed all the requirements for the application. I have a received the Commander's Nomination and have it in my file as well. I originally had a 26 on my ACT from high school. I studied my butt off and just recently received a composite score of 29. I have not received an LOA. I sent West Point my ACT scores this week so it may just be early.

Any opinions on my chances of getting in? I am set to commission in Dec. of 2016 so I have a solid back up plan B. Just always wanted to go to West Point.

Delilah. I admire your desire to serve your country and can appreciate your desire to attend West Point, but I am having a hard time understanding why you would want to start over when you are about the commission? Also, why would the Army want to invest several hundred more thousand in you to attend West Point when you are ready to commission? Many on here would say a 2LT is a 2LT regardless of where they came from.

Jebdad. Always been a dream of mine to go to West Point! I'll take a free degree and the lessons in humility attending West Point will teach me. A humble officer, soldier, and person goes a long way. I completed the entire packet in less than a month, completed 21 hours and studied for the ACT. I am committed. I am curious to know, if anyone has any knowledge of the Reserve Component stats. Anyone have any news for me on where they believe I measure up?

Thanks

Hey Sledge,

What does "vacancy winners" mean?
