Hi all, I've lurked here for a while and am amazed at the wealth of information to be had. My son has been interested in U.S. military service for quite some time but only earlier this year did it really start to come to a head. Unfortunately, the deadline for college scholarship opportunities passed before he had made up his mind that that is the route he wanted to go. He is now a first year college student and in the AROTC program (non-contracted) at his institution and has gone through the first scholarship board selection process (interview was 11/4). He has not heard any results, which is where my questions start to come in. My understanding of this process consists of what I've read from the U.S. Army website (and others including here), the college itself, and feedback I've gotten from my son on what he's been provided. I also understand that it is quite different than the process for HS students. There is nowhere that has been conveyed where he can check his "status" as I see mentioned for HS applicants. A final understanding that I've come to is that he will not hear anything if a scholarship is not awarded. If any of these understandings are incorrect I'd be much appreciative of the correction. Long story (not so) short, we're getting a bit anxious at this point but his AMS 110 instructor suggested he be patient rather than attempting follow-up communications. Finally to my question; does anyone have experience with this path and process that can shed any light on the timing of these awards? Does it simply vary by school? Any advice is much appreciated!
