3Q and unlucky with Nom

Are you saying you don’t have a nom?

That's sort of a non sequitur first post there. What do you mean? Are you asking what happens in the application process if you don't get a nomination? Simply stated, no nomination means no offer of appointment.

Did you apply to all available nomination sources? Presidential and Vice-Presidential nominations can still happen at this stage of the process, as can those for enlisted personnel, ROTC, children of deceased/disabled Vets/POW/MIA, and children of Medal of Honor Recipients.

And in the BIG answer picture, you move on to plan B and beyond. Which everyone should be tending to alongside their SA app. Decide if you want to reapply. Follow the recommended process for that (see advice for reapplicants here on the SAF, as well as on USNA website). Your medical is good for 2 years (since you mentioned 3Q), so you won’t have to complete that piece again. But you will the rest. If you join NROTC, you will have an additional nominating source.

As said above, simply stated: No nom, no offer of appointment.

But also important: No BFE, still alive, still in the game. Have you received BFE? If an SA really wants you, they have ways of finding a nom.

And as noted above: This is why you tend to Plans B, C, D and so on. Because you never know if/when the TWE/BFE arrives. And only then is it truly resolved.

It is not over until the SA “regrets to inform you.” Do not bail out. Tend your alternate plans. If you decide to re-apply next cycle, your current application will still be available to the SA. There are specific instructions for college re-applicants at USNA.edu

3Q with LOA but no NOM could end up with good news..right?
Yes, go read your answers to your post on that and keep breathing! Different sweat category. 😉

Thank you for all responses. Plan B-D & NROTC tended. Pres Nom ruled out, service-related below 100% threshold. At peace & hopeful until TWE. Considering USNR...

Presidential Nom does not require 100% disability. It is for children of career military, Active or Reserve. Disabled vets is a different pool of noms

Anything "could" end up with good news, but frankly there are hundreds, if not thousands, of good candidates out there who are 3Q without a Nom. Look at it this way, most MOC use the competitive alternate nomination process ..nominating up to 10 candidates and letting USNA pick the most competitive among them. If a Candidate doesn't have a NOM, it means (at least in the competitive alternate scenario), he /she isn't in that MOC 's
"top ten." That candidate may be outstanding, especially in the regions where hundreds of candidates apply, but USNA simply can't admit everyone ..no matter how good they are.

Having an LOA with no NOM is a different scenario. USNA saw something that made a Candidate stand out enough to issue an LOA, but the MOC did not. There is a reason that one of the conditions of the LOA is getting a NOM. I saw a post in another thread that suggested that USNA will "find" a NOM for someone with an LOA; I don't think that's necessarily true - USNA "can" find a NOM , but it really depends if USNA wants that person bad enough to do so.

In my case, my LOA came after the NOM decision was out. Looks like our MOC/senator do not give duplicate NOMs

.
I think the academy has a rough idea of the likely number of 3Q LOAs without NOMs that will occur from looking at all the past years’ data.

This information is used to manage the LOA stack, so that they don’t issue Too Many LOAs that would prevent them from finding a Nomination for fully qualified LOAs all the way up to I-Day — e.g, from declines, May 1 failures to accept or decline, and does not show up on I-day.

You applied for the VP nomination though, yes?

First, USNA does not fill slots of those who don't show up on I-Day. I would expect the the very latest notification would be about a week before I-Day, though almost everyone hears by mid-June if not earlier.

Second, USNA does not always "find" noms for LOA candidates without them. In the last ~5 years, I've had at least 2 candidates with LOAs who were o/w qualified without noms and they received turndowns.

Sometimes it works out. But, as has been said above, if you don't have a nom, you need to be focusing on other options while you hope USNA will come through.
