DD is 3q and has an loe. 1520 sat, national honor Soc, swim captain, very physically fit, national merit commended scholar, outstanding pianist w several awards, Girl Scout gold award and did not get a nomination from our nj congressman. Still waiting for senators results. What happens if she does not get a nomination at all? Is that the end of her Usma aspirations? Thank you for any responses

Have your daughter contact her RC and ask about her standing. They will not tell her if she will or will not get an Appointment. But RC normally tell you if she has strong chance or not. If not her RC will recommend to do something to still improve her package. She looks great but someone else can be on top by a bit more with bit more qualifications other candidates are ahead of her. Everything counts as the RCs say. Every WCS counts. If you live in Bergen county that’s a tough market. Many high and higher SATs in that district. Similar to Long Island NY Orange County CA and Northern VA.

If she applied for VP Nom she should be considered for that. VP Noms are considered after Candidate have exhausted their MOC Noms. This is what we heard from our RCs very recently. So take this comment with grain of salt.

But no one on this forum can predict her chance. No one. Just keep your spirit up and continue to work on her package. I am certain she can still improve it. I’m sure she has done more than what you said. But there are candidates with more stellar qualifications still updating their RCs with latest grades activities and awards. The race is still on until she receives her appointment between now and April and mid May for few candidates. So have a good plan B. You were up late thinking about this. Please have a good sleep. And don’t worry too much about this. If it’s going to happen it will happen. If you have a good plan B then the wait becomes that much easier. Good luck to your family.

She sounds like a good candidate but no nom = no appointment.

Deadline for all noms is Jan 31 so don't sweat yet - have you checked to see when your district and senators announced noms last year?

To the question about “is this the end” - it’s not the end until she ages out at 23. That’s why there are so many re-applicant threads, why there is a whole section on prep and college applicants on the SA websites, and Plan B discussions. There are those who want it with every fiber of their being, keep trying once, twice and more, and that grit, plus sustained performance, is enough to get some of them over the nom hump and an eventual appointment. Equivalent of leaving everything on the playing field.
