I completed my application file before Christmas, still haven't heard back about whether I am 3Q'd or not. I know for a fact that I am academically qualified, I also excelled in my CFA and passed my medical, so I know that I am 3Q'd.

How long did other people wait from completion of their file to reception of their 3Q letter?

DS submitted final piece (CFA) Dec 16th and received "3Q" letter Jan 11th. Southeast Region.

Last year's class 12,973 applications started, 3,992 nominated, 2,159 "qualified" (3Q - academic, medical, physical aptitude), 1,240 admitted.

What is a "3Q" letter?

It's a letter saying your candidate file is qualified because you've passed the CFA, gotten your DoDMERB Qualified OR Waiver Granted for DoDMERB Disqualifications, and have cleared the minimum academic requirements.

3Q + Nomination + All green checks and required forms completed = an admissible candidate

This doesn't mean the candidate will be admitted, but it means they have about a 50/50 chance given the stats on the class profiles, as Dadx4 is summarizing.

Actually the chances are around 67-68% when you consider the number offered is more around 1450-1460 as about only 85% of those will accept. The number is even higher for females. Over 70 percent based on last year's results.

This is true according to last year's stats, but remember that last year there was a significant decrease in the number of files started than in some of the years prior.

How many triple qualified candidates get "3Q" letters and why don't they all get them?

If I recall correctly, it's all down to what region you're in. Your coordinator usually does, but may not send a 3Q letter through the portal, some choose emails or letters. Keep your eyes open and have patience, it pays off!

Not sure how many get them versus how many don’t. I don’t think they’re required for RCs to send, but I could be wrong. I just got an email. A family that is close friends with mine houses an Old Grad. Class of ‘82! The time where dinosaurs roamed the plain...no portals!!!

My DD received a 3Q letter along with an LOE for the class of 2020. She did not receive an appointment.

She did not receive a 3Q letter or LOE her second time and is a member of 2021 getting her appointment in late January.

No one really knows the rhyme or reason behind it.
