I just got an email from my BGO stating that there are 15 (including myself) 3Q'd candidates in the state of NC. What could this indicate as far as the # of appointments that could potentially go out?

Can someone please explain to me what 3Q'd means?

It means that you are medically, physically, and academically/anything else qualified. These are the three areas that must be met in order to be considered for an appointment as well as a nomination.

DS was 3Q'd(according to BGO), 3 noms, not in a highly competitive district, very competitive SAT and ACT, 5.0 weighted GPA, likely valedictorian, 12 AP classes, AP Honors with Distinction, 3 varsity sports, capt. of lacrosse team, smart, kind, charming, highly respected by peers and TWE as of yesterday.
Those of you still CPR in NC (and of course all CPRs, but especially NC:cool:), we are praying for you and wish you all the best.

So sorry to hear this Mitty. Reading over those stats it is hard to fathom what else admissions is looking for in a candidate. Sounds like the academy is going to be missing out on some great kids. I read these post everyday and I often wonder what my DD can do to improve her chances. Seems like there is no magic formula for admittance.

It has humbled us to read the posts of the fine young men and women applying to the SAs. There appears to be no magic formula other than work hard, check the boxes, and pray for good luck. I think there should be a disclaimer on the first page of USNA application. It should say something like... Don't go thru this long, grueling, stressful process unless you are fully prepare to be TWE'd in the end.

There is one thing for certain. This country is still capable of producing so many excellent young men and women that USNA can't possibly take them all.

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you. I had 3 nominations, very good SAT scores, high GPA and class rank, AP classes, extracurricular, etc. My BGO thought highly of me, but yesterday the TWE came in for me as well.
Nice to see that I'm not the only one going through this!

So sorry Fanatic. The past few weeks have been pretty brutal for TWEs. Too many excellent applicants like you and far too few slots available. Is re-app in your future? I would bet your plan B is what most kids are wishing they had for their plan A.

Fanatic & Mitty I am sorry to hear about the TWE's you received. The admissions decisions to the service academies, colleges and universities around the country sometimes do not make any sense. I wish you the best in the future.

Fnatic and Mitty, so sorry for your TWEs, my DS had similar stats, got the TWE wednesday night. I hope you have great Plan Bs!
Mitty, VERY WELL SAID, this is a great country if USNA just can't take all these awesome candidates. There is much hope for this country, I just hope some of these awesome kids run for office!

Thank you Roguemom35. It amazes me the stoicism these young adults show in the face of great disappointment and the encouragement they have for others on this forum. I believe it is a barometer of how they will deal with the challenges of adulthood. Fingers crossed they are our future leaders of this great country. My DS like yours is unsure about USNA 2022. My husband says his life has been a series of plan Bs resulting in becoming highly successful in his field, so...

Thank you Trackgirl1999. Your path is taking you to USNA, one way or another. Enjoy the ride...even the Dark Ages. You have been one of those who has been so encouraging to your peer and shared good advice, a true leader. All the best to you.
