3rd AROTC Scholarship Board Results

Does the status change from UC back to boarded have any indication on what the results may be?

I don't know. We aren't informed of the technical aspects of the application dashboard. You will know soon enough. Be patient.

I saw a posting that some of the former 3 year recipients may be upgraded to the full 4 year scholarship after this final board. Can anyone confirm this?

It does happens sometimes, buy only if there ends up being less than 1000 4YR scholarships. The top 1000 get a 4YR, the next 1000 get a 3YR, then next couple of hundred get 2YR MJC offers.

If my DS does not get a scholarship after this board but takes ROTC classes at his college, can he still earn Officer after graduating or does he have to have had a scholarship?

I am far from an expert, but I have tried to look up this question also. The way I read it, if your DS takes advanced military science (jr & sr year courses) he will still enter the service as a 2nd Lieutenant. He will also still have a service obligation similar to that of someone who earns a scholarship. You can read about it at https://www.goarmy.com/rotc/courses-and-colleges/curriculum/advanced-course.html. Also don't forget, many ROTC units offer on campus scholarships that can be earned post high school. Good luck!

Yes your son can still commission if he is contracted and completes ROTC. A scholarship is not required. In fact not every cadet will end up with a scholarship. Cadet Command's goal is to have 80% of all contracted cadets with a scholarship. Most scholarships are awarded as 2-3yr campus based scholarships to college students. Your son will be able to compete for a campus based scholarship if he enrolls into ROTC. Very few cadets will ever get a 4YR scholarship.

My understanding is if they don't get the national scholarship which is a contract, they can try to earn a 2 or 3 year one at the campus level. If they do not have a scholarship before graduation, they must earn advanced standing by junior year or they will be kicked out of the ROTC program. All 3 are "contracts" that assure them becoming officers. Otherwise, they would have to try for OCS after graduation at that point...

That is correct.

Just a little more patience. It looks like the results will be published this Friday, as the draft results are out for review.

How many scholarships out of how many people are left to offer?

We are not given that information , but approx 14000 students start the application. Around 1000 scholarships have been offered with about a 1000 remaining.

For those of you "waiting patiently" just an fyi. When my son was waiting on the third board results and kept refreshing after seeing results popping up here and it still said " boarded" but someone said to log out and log back in not just refresh. He did this and it changed to "winner" so, when you see people posting here that their portal changed and you're hasnt, try logging out and logging back in.

Good luck!

Just checked, but nothing yet! My heart is pounding! Good luck to all

He will also still have a service obligation similar to that of someone who earns a scholarship.

A Non Scholarship cadet that graduates and commissions to Active duty will have a minimum 3yr AD, 5yr IRR obligation to the Army, someone on Scholarship will have a 4yr AD, 4yr IRR minimum obligation. A Branch such as Aviation requires a minimum 6yr AD obligation.

Many cadets will sign an ADSO to help get the branch they want, this will add an additional 3 years to their obligation.

Of course the Reserves and NG have different obligations.

To avoid and nerves on Friday, one of the CO's in charge of the ROTC at one of my son's college choices said he wouldn't have the list of students with scholarships until April 1 (not before) so if it's not changed by tomorrow then Monday is most likely.
