3rd Board AROTC 2024-25

It's exciting to see some 3 to 4-yr upgrades, congrats! We're feeling lucky for DD's 3-yr :) Does anyone have any creative ideas on how to pay for year 1? Per her ROO, no campus-based scholarships are available. Her #1 choice is an (out of state) state school - we can't negotiate for in-state tuition & her merit scholarship can't be stacked. Her third choice is a private college - she rec'd a big merit scholarship and they just offered to waive her tuition for year 1. A good problem to have *but* but she only applied on a whim and does not want to go there. Her dad is strongly influenced by the "free tuition" offer but it won't be a good fit. Any recommendations? We discussed National Guard with her ROO but I am unsure of that option.

On letter the Scholarship Tuition says: FULL TUITION or ROOM AND BOARD”. Does this mean it is one or the other but not both?

Yes, it has always been one or the other. Full tuition & fees OR room & board up to $12k. Uniforms are loaned out, with the option to return or purchase.
Mohawk, thank you for your continued guidance here. Is it safe to assume the 3 to 4 yr upgrades have all been processed and notified?

Wondering something similar, my scholarship is in the 7th brigade and was wondering if upgrades were sent out separately by brigade?

Sorry if these questions seem silly - I appreciate you making it so easy…. Laughing because it is basically a wash at Indiana University in-state tuition. Slightly more for room and board… Can you switch back and forth if tuition goes up? Out of state obvious choice but do people just usually pick tuition? He also has an academic scholarship that might still be applied? Agree - thank you for your guidance.

Yes, notifications should have been made by now through the award letter in your portal.

It's done by USACC, not the individual BDEs.

The majority pick Tuition & Fees, if the tuition is higher than $10K, and they don't have tuition covered by other assistance. The Room & Board option is taxable as it is a direct deposit to the cadet and is technically not considered a "scholarship". It used to be tax free, but was reclassified as taxable income a few years ago. The Tuition & Fees option is tax free and paid directly to the school's bursar.

Just got my 4 year AROTC Scholarship. There was a website issue that caused a delay- Super thankful to my ROO who helped me fix and identify the issue.
That’s great! Congrats 🎉 Was it an upgrade from the second board, or were you boarded for the first time in the third board?

I only applied for the third board, I think I messed up submitting my SAT Scores or there was an issue processing them since they weren't received. I was initially rejected because there were no SAT Scores to look at, however my ROO was able to find out what the issue was and I was re-reviewed this time with my SAT Scores.

I now have my winner letter signed and validated in the portal. Is there anything else I must do to secure this scholarship?

You have "secured" your scholarship, however, in order to actually activate it (and get the benefits) you must undergo a DOBmerb medical and eye exam.

You should have received emails about how to get started (check your spam).

Please read through the documents posted in the "addition information" tab in your portal they are super helpful.

I have already been DoDMERB qualified from my West Point application and have the ROTC correspondence in my portal 😁! If that’s finished am I all set? Thank you for the help!

Its never done...

Stay fit.

Google SF-86 and start your template on answers to the clearance questions. Its better to do it now vs digging for that information during the fall semester.

Do the scholarship certificates that winners receive come in the mail? If so, have any 3rd board winners receive theirs yet? The one that reads “having achieved a meritorious record in academic studies, extracurricular participation, and athletic activities, and having demonstrated exceptional leadership potential, as well as an expressed desire to serve as an officer in the United States Army, is conditionally selected for an Army ROTC Scholarship.”
