3rd Board & waiting

For those of you that are confused and waiting, my feeling is the new software allows Cadet Command to push a button and change everyone's status at the same time, so if you status didn't change I'm pretty sure you don't have an offer. The only way to check is to contact a ROO and ask them to verify you didn't get an offer. In my mind that isn't breaking any rules.

Cadet Command doesn't always tell us how they are going to do things. Even when they do, some of us have a tendency not to listen to them and follow directions. The process is what it is, there are winners and not winners, and life goes on.

letters have been mailed...offers have been posted. If your status didn't change by now recommend you contact the ROO at your school of choice to verify and start working your plan B, or whatever plan was waiting on the third round results. There may be supplemental offers, USMA non select offers, JROTC offer (notice I said "MAY") but the regular high school process has come to an end.

Congratulations to all winners! My DS did not receive an offer this year. But he does have a plan B and will enroll in ROTC and definitely apply again next year. Thank you for the advice to check with the ROO. They may have supplemental offers. He will check that out.

Thank you Clarkson Army. You made sense out of a sometimes confusing process and I appreciated your honesty and straightforward answers!

Good luck to all!

I just got a call from the Army Rotc Office of UMD stating that I was offered a 3 year scholarship to the Citadel and Hampton. They told me that it was a late decision. For everyone that was waiting all night for that boarded to change to winner, call your schools. Dont give up. I would like to thank everyone on this forum.

I received a 3 year scholarship to my top 3 schools today. However, for my top school I was only accepted into the spring semester 2016-2017 with a possibility of being admitted into the fall semester 2016. I find out in June. If you received a 3-year scholarship do you have to attend that school in the fall or can you start in the spring and join ROTC then ?

I would call the ROO at that school, they should be able to answer your question pretty quickly.

DS status just changed today after 12 noon to winner!

So, here's a question...BTW, not complaining at all about DS receiving a 3 year! Just curious after something I read. Is it possible that some ROTC winners can have additional time added to the three year awards? If so, how does that work?

I'm not too sure but I've heard of them getting upgraded to 3.5 year scholarships based off of performance in the first semester. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

It happens. DS won a 3yr on second board and it was upgraded to a 4 yr just after 3rd board. This was done at the national level. You can clearly compete for available dollars once enrolled and on-site.

Sorry for the segmented post, the previous post misfired. Clarkson, could you please provide a little context on the possible USMA non-select offers? My DS was on the NWL and just received the letter stating he wasn't appointed. He's accepted and enrolled at his #1 school and met with the ROO last week so plan B is motion. I'd just like to learn as much as possible about all potential options. Thanks.

I don't have any more information then Cadet Command sometimes makes offers to a segment of the non select list. That is all I know and in the past 12 years I have seen non selects get offers and I have seen non selects not get offers. Those offers will probably be made in the next couple weeks if they are going to be made.

That's helpful, thank you. The process is rather mysterious to many of us so any information such as this helps add context. DS was awarded an Ike Skelton Scholarship in December (which he declined) and the ROO at his #1 school had never heard of those scholarships so the process is full of surprises even for the those with some experience. Again, thank you.

The Ike Skelton offers are new this year (as far as I know). I try to pay close attention to the national scholarship, which is my bread and butter here at Clarkson. There have always been Ike Skelton scholarships available for JMCs, but the JMCs making offers to national applicants during the process is new.

Interesting. I guess that's why I had to look far and wide to find any information on it. Assuming DS doesn't get a non select award later in the month he can apply for a 3 year national scholarship again next year, correct? As I mentioned earlier, he's enrolled at his #1 school and in contact with the ROO there and intends to participate in ROTC with or without an award. When is the best time to start the application for next year? Based on his experience this year I would start May 1 but from the Army's point of view administratively I could see that being a bit early. Thanks again for your insight, every piece of information brings the picture a little more in focus.
