3rd Board & waiting

Jaeger, I am pretty sure that any scholarships from this point on would be applied for and competed for amongst his battalion. The national scholarship he already applied for is only for high school seniors.
Good luck to him!

Interesting. I guess that's why I had to look far and wide to find any information on it. Assuming DS doesn't get a non select award later in the month he can apply for a 3 year national scholarship again next year, correct? As I mentioned earlier, he's enrolled at his #1 school and in contact with the ROO there and intends to participate in ROTC with or without an award. When is the best time to start the application for next year? Based on his experience this year I would start May 1 but from the Army's point of view administratively I could see that being a bit early. Thanks again for your insight, every piece of information brings the picture a little more in focus.

He needs to ask his ROO. It would be campused based, not national, as far as I can tell. Some schools, depending on where they are located can even do a 3.5 year, where others cannot. We have learned this from the varied location of the schools my daughter has been talking to. It has something to do with what ROTC BDE that state is in? I honestly don't know what that is or what I am talking about, just repeating what she was told.

Unfortunately right now it is just a waiting game. We have been in your shoes last year as my son waited to hear. It should be this week from other threads.

I received a WINNER of 4 year ROTC scholarship to my choice of the schools. However, does anyone know how to accept this offer. Is a packet sent in mail or can it be done online.

Yes, you will get a packet. There will be a form to fill out with select or reject and which school you are choosing. Congratulations!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your response! Do you know how quickly this comes? My two choices of schools were VMI ( which I desire) and VT. I have also received a scholarship for Norwich and considering "switching" my ROTC scholarship and I would have a fully funded 4 years. Do you know how hard or how long this process takes?

I don't remember exactly, but it wasn't long. A week or so. My son is currently a 4th Class Cadet at VMI. It is a great place, if you decide to go there. Yes, the free room and board of Norwich for ROTC winners is nice.

I had no idea they did the R & B free at Norwich. I was only basing it on an academic/ merit scholarship received. It would pick up the cost of all remaining fees. VMI first choice. Curious is your son on a ROTC Scholarship now currently?

I am trying to understand what would be covered under the ROTC 4 year scholarship before receiving the packet? Calculating costs.

The ROTC scholarship will cover tuition. I believe that Norwich offers free room and board to ROTC scholarship winners. I could be wrong, but it was on of my son's 3 choices. The scholarship would also give you $600 towards books ( you may have to pay up front depending on the timing ) and fees associated with classes, I think. You would be responsible for everything else.

My son was a 3 year winner, so he has not contracted or received any scholarship money yet. If you choose VMI you will be responsible for room & board, quartermaster fee and some others that I can't recall off the top of my head. It isn't cheap. $12,000-$15,000 maybe. Sorry, wish I knew offhand, but it will change some likely anyway but that should give you a ballpark cost.

Yes, VMI does seem to be a little more costly at the moment. I need to look into Norwich's costs covered again, hearing that they cover R&B is a big plus right now.

Ahhhh...come on Smiley, we know, deep down you wanna be a Hokie!
I did get some money from VT, but not the major I wanted, but definitely still an option at the moment.

At Norwich they give ROTC scholarship holders the I.D. White scholarship that pays room and board.

The letter should come a week to 10 days after the portal up date. There are two pages in the packet that you complete and return. This can be done via email. In my son's case his portal updated to reflect he accepted the same day.

Great! A few more days then

For Norwich, if you have an ROTC scholarship, the ROTC pays tuition and most fees, the ID White picks up room and board. You end up paying around $4000 in Corps of Cadets uniform fees, spread over 2 years, and about $2000 for health insurance per year if you are not covered in Vermont under your current policy.
