I am applying a third time. I took some time to think about it since it would mean 6 total years of college, but since I am not currently on a track to commission into the navy and since I could take advantage of my academic experience to potentially graduate with 2 degrees (which is something I've heard of 3rd time applicants doing when acccepted). If there are any succesful 3rd time reapps here who can offer advice or BGO's who can help me if there's anything wrong with my plan.

I'll be a sophomore at UNG next year in the Corps of Cadets. I just graduated the Corps' basic leadership development course to become a cadet NCO, graduating top 10 in my class of 176. I will be c/SSG next year and be a squad leader for a squad of 10 cadets. Academically I am taking 2 Chinese literature classes (both taught entirely in Chinese, no English allowed) Calc 2, Principles of Chem 1 (step up above intro to chem) with lab, and my Military Science class. I am joining my company's intramural beach volleyball team, and I hope to retake the ACT to improve upon my 32. If nothing happens, I'll be doing a semester in Taiwan in the spring at the Republic of China Military Academy (ROCMA). Over the summer I'm working two jobs (lifeguard and waiter) to help pay for school, and taking 9 hours of online classes.

My biggest concerns are that the exchange may hurt more than help my application, my GPA (currently a 2.9, but many of my poor grades will be replaced over the summer), and my lack of an english class (I have fulfilled the English requirements for my major). On the brightside though, my campus will be returning to fully in person classes, which is great since I struggled heavily with online classes. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

By second degree, do you mean double major? All mids regardless of major earn a BS (versus a civilian college where you might earn a BS as well as a BA, for instance). Our mid got in on his second try, and was able to validate enough course work to double major in Poli Sci and Arabic. The other opportunity for those who are ahead on their coursework is VGEP (VOLUNTARY GRADUATE EDUCATION PROGRAM), where you work on your MS the spring of your 1st class year.

A double major if I can. I’m thinking Chinese since I’ll be pretty far ahead by the time I get to the academy if I get in this time.

Make sure you understand how being a civilian college student affects your standing should you receive offer of appointment. Remember that your credits don’t carry over. You’ll have opportunity to validate classes, but you won’t be able to advance based purely on credits.
