4-Year NROTC Scholarship Acceptance Thread

Was the proportion/ ratio of tier 1 and tier 2 major applicants the same... perhaps less applied tier 1?
Generally speaking, tier 2 had the highest number of applicants as well as the highest number of both selectees and non selects. I attribute this to the "middle principle", meaning people tend to select something in the middle if they aren't sure.

The Navy has now sunk both of my ships (NROTC & USNA). ACT of 35 and a Tier 1 major. Even though I wanted to follow in my mom's footsteps, I guess the Air Force is where I was meant to serve. Hoping to get positive news from USAFA but still have my plan B in my back pocket of AFROTC 4-year scholarship which are hard to get out for high school students. I heard there were between 300 -500 offer this year. GO FALCONS!!!!
All is not lost! Everyone has a little bit different path on their military journey. Sure it would have been nice to follow in your mom’s footsteps however you now have a chance to plot your own course. I’m sure she will still be very proud of you in the Air Force!

I was in both the Navy and Air Force, on the enlisted side, and enjoyed my time in both equally. Good luck with the USAFA. Having an AFROTC 4 year scholarship in your back pocket is a great plan B. Smart planning on your behalf. I’ve seen too many high school students put all their eggs in the SA basket and have no plan if turned down by the SA.

Keep us posted on how things turn out. Best of luck to you!

We found out thursday that our son was granted a scholarship! woooohoooo
he was TWE'd from the USNA on the previous Friday so this was quite the surprise for us.

Question about the NSI paperwork specifically the sports physical docs: can we use the forms we took to our pediatrician during his recent well check or MUST they be on the exact forms provided in the package.

Just to be sure I asked doc to transcribe onto NSI forums which she did no problem and no office visit. Also, get your Sickle Cell lab results right away. We ended up having to pay out of pocket for a new one.

yes that sickle cell thing threw me for a loop. made an appt for tomorrow.
And good idea about asking doc to refill the forms. we will do that!

I'm still reviewing the final tally of scholarships handed out for this season, but wanted to share just a couple statistics for those who like to have those in your brain housing group......

There were a total of 1240 scholarships offered which included 82 MSI and 20 Nurse Corps.
There were a total of 752 that were not selected. So the odds were nearly 50% for selectees.

Of the non-select group, Tier 3 majors were 174, Tier 2 majors were 307, and Tier 1 majors were 271. I am still trying to figure that one out, and it's possible there is no correlation whatsoever.

Another interesting statistic is that there were 290 non-selects from the first 3 boards of the year. I don't want to read too much into that, but my takeaway there is, and we have said this on many an occasion, submit the highest quality package you can submit, rather than racing for a premature sense of "if I get it in early, I get more looks". That is, completely, totally, utterly, incorrect.
YES, Capt Meyers is Spot On "TURN IN YOUR BEST APPLICATION" NOT "Turn it in the quickest". Here are 3 Quick Hits:

1) Take the SAT/ACT again and again with the Final Being in August of Senior Year, and the application will also include another Summer of work (paid or volunteer) and extracurriculars. The last SAT for the Class of 2024 will be August 26, 2023. Get results in 2 weeks and NOW start to put your application together.

2) Interview with your FIRST CHOICE SCHOOL. GO THERE, even if it means getting on a plane. Otherwise Zoom. The PNS NROTC Officers will see exactly who they are getting and you get to sell yourself. If you can get to that First Choice School on a Home Football Weekend, even better. The detachments usually tailgate and you get a real feel, ask questions, etc. in an informal setting.

3) Practice writing the essay questions and practice Interview techniques. The application just doesn't have essay questions, some questions have up to a 500-word response but are not technically "essay questions".

Just my 2 cents having a DS successfully awarded a 4-Year Nurse Option Scholarship.

DD chose appointment to USMMA over 4 year NROTC scholarship. It was a difficult decision, but ultimately the many options she'll have upon graduation and the ability to keep playing a sport she loves swayed her decision. She declined the scholarship online, so hopefully someone who is still waiting can get it. This forum has been very helpful and entertaining! Thanks to all.

Turned in NSI paperwork last week. Got a response and NSI session assignment within a few days. Is anyone else going to NSI session 1 (June 8-26) at Great Lakes, IL? Also, can someone give us more insight about the extremely sparse packing list? Does this mean everything else not on the list is being issued, including things like socks, underwear, basic toiletries, as well as sports bras and hair necessities for females?

My DS will be attending NSI #1. Only bring what is on the list. They will be issued everything else. Very similar to enlisted boot camp for all the services. Its only 3 weeks long compared to the 12 weeks I did at Marine Corps boot camp. I keep razzing him about the short duration.

Curious does NROTC send out BFEs or has anyone received one?

Thank you so much for confirming. And I will DM you so maybe our mids can connect before NSI 1.

I don’t believe so. DD’s recruiters etc are coming to her school awards night to present her scholarship so if that involves a BFE I’ll let you know. Her direct recruiter joked that they were bringing one of those giant mock checks, but I think he was kidding….
Ours brought the GIANT mock check!!! And a photographer - definitely made a statement!

Definitely not kidding haha! My recruiter brought one as well as the photographer as Chip07 mentioned. Definitely drew a crowd up at school!

Has your DS received travel itinerary yet? I was originally told that I would be notified of travel plans a month out but I was told recently they were experiencing delays for NSI updates...

My son was sent his itinerary from his unit last week. He was told that his orders will come at a later date.
