4-Year NROTC Scholarship Acceptance Thread

The part I'm confused about is the university's involvement in the notice. It seems like people are mentioning the school's involvement in the notification. I was expecting the notification to come from NETFOCUS, or my DD's recruiting station. So does DD get notification of selection first and then match later or is it selection and match at the same time. If at the same time then I can see a delay while waiting for the school.
This is a really good question. My DD has been accepted to 3 of her listed top 5 NROTC schools. However, her first choice she has not heard from yet (and she'd be happy with the 2nd pick at this point, I think she'll want to try to switch to that if she's fortunate enough to get the scholarship). She was boarded in November so her father and I are about mentally shot. I guess youthfulness (and all the academic, sporting and social demands of her senior HS year) keep her mind completely occupied but I am entering stalker status on this forum..... I too would like to know. Does NETFOCUS update/emails go out to selectees directly and THEN they hear from a school unit... or does CMGO and the college/universities need to be in sync before sending out acceptances (or rejections). I thought it was list your top 5 but that has nothing to do with whether you'll actually get admitted to those top 5 as an student, so you need to concurrently apply to those schools as well...

I'm assuming Navy? I've never heard of alt status. Wouldn't her application just be forwarded to the next board?
alternate status means they have not selected you, nor cut you, from the applicant pool. So really it means you aren't above the cut line to be picked YET... but you're good enough to keep in the pool of candidates. My DD has been in alternate status since she was boarded (first reviewed) in December. So I believe it rolls from board to board but that also probably has to do with all each board session and what the numbers and make-ups of the boards are. My understanding is an application receives a score and THAT does not change from board to board; it's the cut line (or better term, acceptance numerical threshold) that fluctuates based on probably one million different things. Ultimately there is a final board ... and then everyone finds out one way or the other

Regarding the schools, my understanding was that the applicant will be matched to one of those 5 schools on the application and they try to match in order. It's up to the applicant to gain acceptance to the school and is in your best interest to be admitted as soon as possible. Mine has 4 out 5 accepted and the one she is waiting on isn't high on her list.

good to know - thanks!

This......and exactly this.

An application is reviewed by the board and gets a score. That score does not change. The cut line moves around based on the scores from board to board. And this starts to be the time that NSTC gets word about people who were offered a scholarship but opted to shift to USNA if they had an appointment there.....or West Point, or USAFA. Now add in the little complicator that DODMERB imploded and delayed decisions for the academies.....and this causes perturbations down the line.

So we usually have more fidelity by now, but we have not heard from as many candidates that they are shifting to a service academy or a different branch than NROTC.

I wish it was faster, but we want to ensure we don't have to swns an email that says......"Sorry....we made a mistake. You weren't selected after all."

when do decisions have to be in to the service academies? It is May 1st like "regular" schools?

Marine Option. I found out when my DS's JROTC instructor texted me and asked my wife and me to attend a school assembly the next day. I wasn't sure but I wondered if that was it. It ended in a big check ceremony....way cool! But every place and circumstance is different.

I previously thought he was a non-select because his portal changed from "Your application is at the regional board" to the dreaded "No decision has been made" and I figured better luck at the second board. I missed that under the "No decision has been made" banner was "The NSTC Selection/Placement Office has received your application."

Hmmm...My DD was told after the first board that her score could be improved upon with better ACT/SAT test scores, more volunteer hours, taking the ASTB, maxing out the PFT. So DD did what she could in that short timeframe between 1st and 2nd board to improve her application where she could. Maybe Navy is different from MO.

Navy and MO are completely different. There are only 2 Marine Boards and they are presided over by completely different members.

@GWU PNS - Good Afternoon Sir. Can you please provide us an updated on the statistics after the last board decisions?
Thank you

So this is not as robust a product as I normally try to put together, but I am sifting and pondering over the musings of applicants this week......if you know, you know......

Anyways...

The following statistics are where things stand right now for NROTC (Navy).

Total NROTC 4 Year Scholarships thus far: 657.

There were 8 Nurse Corps selectees.

For the Tier Breakdown:
Tier 1 – 307
Tier 2 – 264
Tier 3 – 94 (14.3%)

The first non-select list was published via email.
Tier 1: 36
Tier 2: 25
Tier 3: 17

By the end of this board, we will be sitting around 75% selection, with the April Board and the Alternates which will fill things out. As a reminder, everything is working a little slower this year with the DODMERB hiccup which slowed service academy waivers and acceptance, which ripples over to NROTC selection. But we will get there.

Is this the non-select list for the current board going on right now?
Those numbers are the non selects for all of the boards held up to this point. There will be more non selects after the board wraps up this week.

The numbers above were far enough down the list that it would be mathematically impossible for them to be selected.

My mind was expecting a higher amount of non selects for all of the previous boards than what was shown on your post. Which was why I was confused since I knew it was too early to get results from this board. Thank you for clarifying for my gerbel size brain!🤣

The Navy fire was completely lit in our oldest DD this summer and she pursued her NROTC application very independently and without asking for any assistance, which we take as a sign that this is truly what she wants and not just because Dad is a former Corpsman. That being said we have rarely searched the internet on this whole topic and only now am I, concerned Mom, starting to dig into the wealth of info here because DD received her alternate status email today. Her completed application went in late November and was complete for this immediate prior review starting December 12th. She has been accepted to #2 and #5 of her top 5 NROTC choices and should hear from all schools she applied to by beginning of March. My question is will she hear anything monthly as boards are held from this point on OR does she just remain in the alternate "pot" until the last board of April 2023? For Mom (lol), getting an update of any kind monthly is better than waiting 4 months to hear yay or nay...
I could have written this post myself-except my FIL was the one who served and was a Master Sergeant in the Marine Corp ! I just recently found this board and questions like yours have been incredibly helpful for a parent who hasn't had any hand in my son's application process and has very little knowledge on the how all of this works. We just found out my son was also given the alternate status and waiting is going to be tough !!!
