4 yrear AROTC scholarship for WPI and RPI... waitlisted now what?

That's great!

One thing that may help him decide:
WPI has a significantly different way of organizing academic classes than most other colleges. We have 4 terms (quarters) per year and take 3 classes (plus ROTC) every term. In junior year, students complete an interactive qualifying project (IQP) and in senior year, students complete their major qualifying project (MQP). One thing which is notable is that most students have a chance to do their IQP abroad, which is an opportunity that not many engineering students get. I'd recommend looking more on the website. Have you visited either school?
Road trip to WPI this week and RPI next along with a couple other schools...IQP overseas sounds interesting, I imagine that trip would be sanctioned by AROTC.

Great news casnmas! Glad everything worked out. :thumb:
Thanks for the feedback!

DS was awarded 4 year AROTC scholarship to WPI and RPI , however was on the waitlist at both these schools :frown:. DS followed the advice here and hit the ground running contacting admissions and the AROTC attachments at both schools this weekend. He got feed back within minutes from WPI AROTC with info on who to contact. RPI emailed today informing him his status was changed to accepted. WPI AROTC emailed today and said acceptance was eminent... Thanks everyone for the advice. DS needs to verify fine print, but both school indicated that room and board are picked up by the school...very nice. Now he has the nice problem of deciding where to go. Any feed back from current of past AROTC cadets at either school would be appreciated.

That is great news! Congratulations to your son.

Road trip complete...and the winner is...

DS and mom finished up road trip to WPI Friday, and RPI with dad on Saturday. Both schools were very impressive. DS Loved the WPI "close knit" feel... distance from home, being the host school for ROTC. RPI impressed him with the resources available to engineering students, no teachers aids used, and student life. JR and SR year ROTC classes are at another college and distance from home, was the only negative for RPI... In the end, RPI impressed him more. After sleeping on it he was even more certain this morning... Accepted AROTC scholarship and admission offer to RPI today ... Paper work signed sealed and delivered... done deal! DS has still not received regrets from USMA yet as he is #2 on his slate... not sure what he would do if it came in now, but I know where to ask... Thank again to everyone who post here... a great resource..
Best of Luck to everyone...

Congratulations again to your son. Between the scholarship and RPI paying for room and board, that's one heck of a deal.

Thank you 2018...More than he every could have imagined... a while back I replied to a post where the person had been accepted to USMA but also had a scholarship to another school, and was having trouble deciding... at the time my advice was a no brainer... go to West Point... after seeing what else is out there, I now see why the decision would be difficult... not sure what DS would chose if USMA comes calling now....

I think it is a difficult decision. My son went from wanting to apply to the Naval Academy because his grandfather was in the Navy for 30 years and he thought that was what he wanted, to deciding that the Army was more in line with what he wanted to pursue.

He did not apply to West Point. He decided that he wanted to have a college experience that wasn't completely devoted to the military. He is excited about meeting all kinds of people and getting to experience a typical college life along with the military portion. He feels very good about his decision. Each person is different and for some, attending one of the academies is their only desire. My son applied to RPI and A&M. If you get a full tuition ROTC scholarship, the RPI deal can't be beat. It's a full ride at a very expensive school since they pay your room and board.
