Curious to know if you’ve heard if 42 push-ups for a male is an automatic fail, even if everything else is good. This is for USAFA and USMA.

Not exactly the same, but my son passed with 46 for USMA and for USNA according to Admissions. Haven't heard yet from USAFA. USNA is letting him retake (and recommending it) but USMA will not allow him after submitting the official score already.

Good to know! Sounds like he met the magical unpublished minimum for USMA. How long after submitting did it take to hear if he passed? This is the last part of the app for him (DODMERB and interview included).

He also passed for USNA - we have it in writing from Admissions but when he asked how to improve his file their only recommendation was CFA.

Only reason we heard from USMA was because the administrator was our local FFR. He very kindly ran a CFA in July and is putting together another one for Fall. He told all applicants who took the CFA with him that day that he would run the scores by Admissions and make sure they were passing before submitting. It took him a month or two but then he emailed and said yes they are passing so I am submitting them.

How much time does USMA allow for CFA reporting? USAFA requires test administrators to enter scores within 48 hours of the test.

His scores are already entered. But as I understand it, they will tell him if they’re passable or not and give one more chance with a new due date.

I haven't heard of a time limit at USMA and I am not sure how the USAFA results got approved submitted a month or two later by the FFR. But I did see they are looking for a 48-hour turnaround at USAFA. Maybe they will be rejected later for this reason but right now I think they have a green check mark or something to show they have been accepted.

USAFA is silent, for the most part, on the CFA results. Most candidates never know "how they did" per the academy's position.

Here's the one thing I know as an ALO: I can look online and see, eventually, if a candidate failed, but that's months from now, and they never tell ALO's what the pass/fail standards are.

A good indication that you passed for USAFA? You submit your scores...and a week or two later (when all your paperwork is complete) your ALO Evaluation is scheduled. A good indication that you didn't pass but that USAFA/RRS is "interested" in you? You get a letter in your portal inbox that offers you a second attempt. That's a SERIOUS hint...

He’s got the check mark showing reviewed and processed, but I’ve heard that means nothing relational to passing. He has everything in except interview and the evaluator has been listed for a couple weeks. But when he reached out to her, she mentioned she thought he’d been incorrectly assigned to her. Trying to sort that out now.

Update for anyone who’s curious. At the least, we know he passed at USMA per FFR. Check mark is still checked for USAFA. Feeling like he’s good to go.

I think it also depends how well you do on the other events. For example, maxing the situps, shuttle run, and doing the mile sub 6:00 would probably offset the low score on pushups. I could be wrong. (I'm taking my CFA tomorrow wish me luck!)

Getting the maximum score in other events will help offset a sub average score in another event to increase the overall CFA score is true. However, getting the maximum score in every event except one will not offset a failing score in one event. No one knows what the minimums are to pass each event, but it is known that if any single event is not scored above the minimum, it is a CFA failure.
So everyone should treat “average” listed scores as the minimum while training to meet the maximum scores in my opinion .
