A. Grill some mom and pop butcher shop bratwursts. And dime Bare brand chicken breasts. Do dumbbell lateral raises while chicken grills two to three minutes per side

B. Clean guns. Nothing says America like the smell of Hoppes #9

There was a time, in my younger days, when I had the patience to withstand crowds enough to enjoy a good fireworks show. Especially true when the kids were little and the fireworks show was an annual rite. (Even when we lived abroad and used that country's national-day fireworks show as a July 4 proxy.)

Now I simply don't have that patience to fight through crowds, lines, heat, parking, etc. Still love July 4 and honor our country's birth as faithfully as I ever did. Just in the privacy of my own home. This year, doing so with DS visiting for the long weekend and a traditional family feast of ribeyes, caprese, smashed potatoes and grilled baguette. Plus key lime pie for dessert. 😋

For my father's 90th we rented a house in Lauderdale for the fourth of July (his birthday). There was a large deck on the third floor that could fit the whole family, so we all went up to watch the fireworks. When they started the local display all the surrounding towns also started. From the elevated position there were air bursts at every point of the compass North, West and South. Best I ever saw. When I was young they used to tell me that all those fireworks were for my father's birthday. :)
 
On my bucket list, is seeing spectacular fireworks from the air. In a plane. Idk if that a thing but it sounds so cool!

But if I how I feel after last night’s DB lateral raises and bicep curls, I should lay off anything sweet.

I was missing a 2.5 pound plate, so I was making 10 pound jumps instead of the usual 5 pounds.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Okay, I will step up and eat it. Unless DH has beat me to it as a “fruit serving.”
 
We were Power Out with many roads closed/blocked from Friday evening through this afternoon so little of the usual
4th stuff was happening for us. I tried to get to a parade that I was supposed to be in on the morning of the 4th but my very torturous route that I had to take ended up making a 5 minute drive into a 25 min ordeal. Part of that (at least 5 mins) was when the Team Brazil motorcade came through and the state police held all cars back from where I needed to go. Got to the parade 5 minutes after they stepped off and sadly it was too late. Hung out at my legion post for a while too cool off and had some typical 4th food. Later, we huddled at home in a very hot house until we went to evening showing of the "Young George Washington" movie which was (of course) air conditioned and a way to get away from the heat and darkness.
Now trying to get back to normal, some appliances are taking their time (I'm looking at YOU there refrigerator) but so far no damage other than spoiled food.
 
Wrapping up the 250th of the Fourth, the Blues leave Boston Logan in orderly fashion. Can you imagine being in a plane waiting on the runway and enjoying looking out the window?

My big bro described an amazing experience watching fireworks in Germany over a castle from his F-16 one time (don't know what German holiday it was). He said it was all fun and games until his his main gear would not deploy and his front (bicycle) gear would not retract! It was a punch out situation if he couldn't fix it but things turned out okay.

I caught that too. I wpukd think that fir any commercial pilot, military backgrpund or not, there was professional appreciation putting a nice stamp on the day.

I saw the Herc trailing on the runway. Guessing no glam shot - but as I recall, the BA C-130 is in the UK for extended maintenance, so this is a stand-in, and I don’t know whether they’ve got it painted up.
 
My wife and I watched the Angels “smoke the beach “ on their return to Pensacola from Boston. There was some ocular leakage which I attributed to the smoke. We have seen them fly so many times but I have to say watching them return home 3 days after being in Annapolis for I-day was icing on the cake. A special moment.
Speaking of the Angels, next week is the Pensacola Beach Show and I somehow ended up with the week off.
